I'm currently having my gears swapped out to the 3.73's, and installer found this. Under 18K miles. Rear was surprisingly quiet!

Ouch! My 03 Cobra came apart at about 15k and found the same thing and it was quiet. Pretty scary but good you found it now.

WhTs causing the reaming? Is it bearings loose or friction?

Could be a number if things. Little dry or a little too much heat and some metal can transfer from race to bearing and then it’s game over. Just keeps making more heat and pulling metal up.

I am guessing it could also be heat treat of materials as well... I've seen similar deterioration on cam lobes here at work. They're gonna tear into the Torsen to ensure there wasn't any damage to that from fod.

Hopefully there was no other damage. Great time to do gears and rebuild now

I've gotta ask. How has the car been driven? Honest question. Play car, stoplight blasts, running it up to 130+? Which is normal for these cars. **** that's how I drive mine.
Any sustained high speeds? Like, really long high speed runs?

Pretty much all of what you listed. Never really drag raced it though. I did do 8 runs at a 1/2 mile event up to 165 mph. I’ve also done 2 Roll Racing events that I got up to 156mph. 17k on the car, 850rwhp 760rwtq, built motor.

I am going to speculate material failure. I don't see any discoloration from high heat. Pretty scary. I've never seen a race that bad.
