Being from Mass i always thought the whole thing with Whitey Bulger was pretty cool. To think a guy on FBI's top 10 most wanted lived 35 minutes from me is crazy to think about.

Only really famous or infamous person from my parts was William Clark Quantrill. Every time you see a Civil War movie or Western and they mention the Lawrence Ks massacre well yep this guy from little old Dover Ohio was the architect of it.[/QUOTE]

I occasionally go through Dover or stay there to go to shoots at some of the various ranges, Thunder Valley, Tuscaraws Sportsman club, the one in Waco....Tuscarawas Rifle or Tactical....something like that. That one had like seven ranges in small canyons, and a small lake called "Lake Steel Rain" great club!
Ohio really does have a bunch of good ranges, they just seem to be clustered around Rt 77.

I live in new orleans its pretty interesting to hear of some of the history the city has. Some of it is downright scary though when you hear passed down stories of some of the voodoo practices.

everybody knows that West Virginia was established as a State during the Civil War. Although the legal state boundary was clear, the lines weren't so clear among citizens along the southern part of the new State. Although WV was formed by proclamation as a Union State, there were still cells of Confederate troops within State lines. One such troop was organized here in Boone County. During the War, Union troops were sent down here and burned the original Boone County courthouse down to the ground (obviously among other objectives during that battle).

Also local is the Battle of Blair Mountain in the 1920's. 7,000 coal miners were attempting to unionize against the coal companies. Several events brewed this cocktail, such as the coal company evicting families from company-owned houses as gunpoint, company-hired security forces slaying a local representative on the courthouse steps, and martial law being declared. State Police, Army bombers, and National Guard were ordered in to fight against the civilians. Approximately 1 million rounds were fired during the 5 day battle.
