Why does Ford restrict auto 4x4 to Lariat trim and above!?! It is embarrassing to say that my 2012 Sierra 1500 SLE that I sold to my son got around in the snow a LOT better than my Ford 1500 XLT. Come on Ford, GM has had it on SLE FOREVER. I also like GM's auto-locking rear better, no switches to dick with! End rant.

Im not sure I understand? I have driven 4x4 XLTs. XLT is lower than Lariat.

I think he means the kind you don't have to think about ,
No cognitive thinking , just steering along .
That shot is for pussies .

Just had 2 foot of snow here , then it thawed slightly and snowed another 1 , so for those math challenged friends , that is 3 feet .
I drove my F250 Super Duty 4x4 V10 , in 2 wheel drive most of the time , until I came across those brain dead chumps , that had gotten themselves stuck in my path.
Turned the knob on the dash and drove thru the Burms , around them .
Seems to be a lot of sheep out these days when the weather turns a little .
Thoughtless pricks mostly if you really want to know my opinion .

GM -- Turn dial to auto 4x4 in November...turn off in May

Ford -- Dick around

Just no excuse for Ford not offering auto 4x4 to lower trim as an option. It doesn't help them to sell more Lariat's, based on inventory I see on lots.

I get you're unhappy with what Ford offers/doesn't offer. But if you're not happy with Ford trucks, buy GM. Pretty simple. No manufacturer is going to make everybody happy, which is why we have choices. I'm not thrilled with their new Edge ST as far as it in no way living up to the 'ST' badge. I'm not going to waste my time ragging on them. I know what it offers and doesn't offer, so now being an educated consumer I'll simply make another choice, and so far it's a Genesis G70. It's all good.

So, basically you're pissed at Ford because you don't want to have to think about when to switch on your 4WD?

Seems legit./s

Dude. Applying effort is hard okay.

I own a 2018 F150 on 35's. It has absolutely no issue getting around in bad weather. Why you need 4a, is beyond me

4 auto is for women and beta males. I'll let my truck know when I want 4wd or want to lock the rear axle (FX4). Hell I'm pissed it still doesn't a lever like the Power Wagon does.

Man tip #31 When it is going to snow don't wear your high heels and skirt or stay home.

Ford doesn't care. They'll still sell millions of trucks regardless and a majority will go to places where 4x4 isn't a necessity. Someone already mentioned it, GM got uncle sam money to keep putting 4x4 in everything. Ford is still plugging along doing what they've been doing.

I’m just the opposite. I want full control. My wife has a 4Runner with all the time 4x4, or all wheel drive, and it irritates me that I can’t spin the rear around. It takes the fun out of being off road.

I was educated Bob, just underestimated how much I liked the GM 4x4 system better than the XLT version. It would be an easy decision to go back, if I didn't like everything else about my truck, especially my 3.5 eco and 38 gallon gas tank.

There used to be a company that sold a viscous coupler for the front axle, no longer available unfortunately.

Went down and bounced swapping the transfer case off my favorite 4x4 shop. Unfortunately, there are hardware, wiring and most importantly, computer nanny issues. So that is not a feasible deal.

Will most likely run dedicated snow tires and just be more aggressive with the 4x4 switch.

The issue I have with the XLT 4x4 has nothing to do with off-roading, it has everything to do with not getting T boned turning right on a icy intersection coming off a dry road. That has been a super common occurrence this winter.

My mother in laws 2015 Expedition xlt has the auto 4x4, yet my bro in laws 2014 fx4 f150 only has the 4x4 manual mode. Kind of funny since the expedition is about the same vehicle as an F150.
