Which drag radial do you prefer on the stock 20" rims? I have used NT05R's in the past on other cars and loved their performance but am unsure about them on a 9.5" rim. Is the 555R a better choice for these cars? I ran through a ton of old threads and found the opinions were back and forth. Figured I would try and settle it with a poll! Thanks.

At what power level?
For stock or mild bolt ons, 555R.
For more power, 700-800rwhp, NT05R.
Unless you’re over 800rwhp or really do strip>street, MTs just aren’t as good of street tires as are Nitto.

I’m about ready to need new DRs. What size NT05R for stock rear wheels?

I ran 315 NT05R on a 10.5" rim on my car, ~600 hp, and they were a world of difference compared to 555r's

Ive run 315-45-18 NT05Rs 10.5"wheel on mine for the last two years and they hook well, Track they suck.
Had the NT555rs before that and didn't find the traction as good as the 05Rs.
On the 9.5" wide you might as well go with a 295 and save yourself the extra $$$. The 315 is going to bulged a lot.

The car will be in the upper 600whp range. I am partial to the NT05R's but I have never ran the 555R's. I think the 555R's would be a better fit for the rim but I don't want to give up a lot of traction if the NT05R's work well. Have you run the NT05R's on the stock rims?

Likely not relevant, but Irecently had to put new tires on my lowly 02 GT. I ran a set of Toyos for almost 4 years. I changed over to M/T Street Comp tires, and the difference is night and day. The ride is more comfortable. There is no road noise. They appear to handle great also. I have no idea how these tires perform in the rain yet.

I drive like a senile old lady on Sunday though. No reason to burn fuel, tear up parts, and waste tires on a car I drive daily at the moment. My review is more than likely useless.

The tires themselves are not the best in regard to asthetics. In my opinion they are downright ugly. The sidewalls are blank slabs. The tires need a bit of definition and character. I love the asymmetric tread though.

315 on a 9.5? I have read that these bulge so much that contact patch on 295 is actually greater. Wider is not always better.....

I ran a 295 on a 9" and the sidewall bulge was big. Too big.
Would have been great on a 9.5 though.

I’ve mounted a 315 NT05R on a stock 9.5 and the bulge wasn’t bad but never ran them. I ended up getting 20x11 in spring and they perform great even with 750+Rwhp. Been in a few cars with 315/9.5 combo and both drove/hooked well.
I currently run 305 Nittos on my DD Hellcat and love them. Auto with great TC tho, different from Shelby.
No 295 DRs in 20s.
If stuck with stock 9.5s I stick with my statements.

What kind of mileage life did you guys get out of MT ETs?

My car doesn’t see enough mileage to concern me a whole lot, but I also don’t want to go through a set in 5k miles. Do they need loads of heat to stick on the street? Obviously that would have an impact on longevity.

The NT05s just hook better, period. I dont have stock rims though.

Running stock Rims I would go with the Toyo R888s, probably the best tire available on the Street for our cars.

The only experience I have with tires other than stock are Michelin Super Pilot Sports and Toyos. I've had two sets of Michelin 295/35/20s on the rear and 275/40/19s on the front. They were a big step up from the stock tires which were dangerous imho unless you got them hot. As the Michelins got some miles on them they seemed to lose their traction, and when they broke loose they would spin up so quickly the back end would almost always jump out hard. White knuckle driving for sure.

I currently have Toyo 285/35/20s on the rear with the Michelins on the front. The Toyos provide a nice jump in traction over the Michelins, and when they do spin, they don't spin up like the Michelins and the car goes straight. Another plus is that the Toyo is designed as an open track tire and its handling qualities are superb.

For street use only, at approx. $650 a pair, the 305 NT555R is the biggest bang for the buck.
