This is where I have to get upset with FCA. While they continue to put out some cool products and cater to their chosen audience, it feels hollow in many ways. A Demon is amazing, but $90k, a Redeye is cool and all, the Hellephant seems unreal.. and I've yet to see it listed for sale.... but... cars like the T/A, 1320 Spec, R/T and SCAT Pack all fall short. They fall short because while Ford and GM continue to beef up the internals of their engines, FCA has done NOTHING.

A Hemi 5.7, which is a damn good amount of displacement has a cast crank and guts made from harden wood chips. The 6.4 is impressive in stock form, but is basically maxed out. It's piston ring lands are to weak to realistically be boosted.

Then you have price, a nicely equipped SCAT Pak is in the 50's... and thats riding a 20 year old 4,000lb chassis, with an engine that is maxed out short of 500hp.

So yeah, really, anything short of a Hellcat, they are only good for a cruiser or commuter, and even though that's 90% of what I do, just knowing that, is very frustrating.

Not to mention to mod any FCA means you need an unlocked PCM.

That was one slight turnoff from the 6.4 for me. 5.0 you can boost to 8 seconds on the stock internals.
6.4 on 8lb of boost and you'll get a nice window in the block. lol

Nailed it. But they sell the shit out of the cars, and gotta admit - the general public doesn’t give a shit about ring details etc etc

People keep buying em they’ll keep selling em.

@Klaus any chance on a hellcat?

Maybe, will have to think about it. It is probably worth it to pay up for the Hellcat over the 392. At that price point would have to give ZL1 a chance, too.

I think the SRT Jeep is out. It seems like a good idea, but would not be fast enough to get me excited and fails at utility function, too.

I would get A8 over manual HC all day. Really solid cars, interior is super nice too. Prices dipping a bit as well with the other 16 trims coming out :D

Out of curiosity, why do you say the jeep fails at utility function?

I would not hesitate to go with a ZL1 over a Hellcat.

Has to be able to handle northern MN winters, which are no joke. Also want to be able to go off road, hunt with, move stuff, tow stuff, etc. For sure it can do these things better than Challenger but still does not do them well.

So, I am thinking of a Challenger for a DD. Either a Scat or SRT. I know the SRT has better brakes, headlights, interior, wheels. Any other notable differences? Also should I get an A8 or M6? Already have a built GT500 so do not have any itches to scratch, will just be a cruiser and occasional DD. What should I get?

Also, the guys on Challengertalk are hilarious. They are dropping $5-10k on H/C/I/LT for 85whp. Just went through long thread of guy that went through all this then blew a piston then rebuilt it then could not get tune to work so had to sell it. Modding these is a total waste of time IMO.

Get the scat and an a8. Also, the hemi world is full of shops who don't know what they are doing. It was a neglected market for a long time and now that the hellcat is out, every Tom Dick and Harry is trying to be a mopar shop now. Find the right shop and they can be fun to play with. The 5.7/6.4 vvt are pretty fragile tho.

Wood chips LOL. The flip side of this is that if you are going to build, you can get 5.7s for next to nothing and have a really good baseline to work with. There is a Hot Rod article floating where they bought a 5.7 longblock out if a truck for $1200, put another $2000 into headwork and internals and had a solid 550hp motor. Point taken though, I built a subaru 2.5 - I hear ringland issues and shudder.

Not a bad idea but not the direction I would want to go.
Same guys and magazine also pushed a 4.6 2V to like 600hp... Anyone want to run a stock 2V at that?

I picked up a 19 scat pack charger in December and plan to daily drive it. It is super comfortable and drives great, and the 392 is awesome. I don't have the need to add more power to it so not concerned about the limitations. The A8 transmission is fantastic.

Nice. Do you think you could fit a mountain bike in trunk with seatsdown
I’m really not sure, I guess it’d be possible with the front wheel removed, the trunk is pretty large, I’ll take a better look tonight when I get in from work.

But on the flip side it's not up the manufacturer to build the engine how we want it. More then likely us Ford fans have been spoiled knowing we could push things a little beyond stock and not worry about it blowing up. But it's not like the manufacturer has to build an engine that can take boost from the factory. They have goals to reach and that's all they need to do.

Right? How much power does a stock 2v or stock na 4v really hold? 3v? Not much is the answer....
