What's in There? | SVTP Tool-Tech | Longacre Oil Filter Cutter

The mystery of the hidden, it always seems to spark a bit of curiosity in my mind. Oil filters are one of those topics that car guys love to argue over. I'd say it ranks right up there with the classic Ford Vs. Chevy and the ever-popular 'Which brand of oil?'. However, it's typically not a great idea to judge a book or oil filter by its cover, so to get a good idea of which one to buy you really want to see what's going on inside the can. That's where the Longacre Oil Filter Cutter tool comes into play.

This thing is basically a combination can-opener/pizza-cutter designed to gut an oil filter. The intention is to check inside used oil filters in order to make sure nothing nefarious is going on inside your engine. No one wants to see glitter caught in the filter pleats. However, I may have taken things a bit further than most.

A few years ago we collected a metric-shit-ton of Ford Motorcraft FL-820S oil filter variants with the intentions of finding out what exactly is the best filter you can buy for your Ford. Well the Longacre Oil Filter Cutter is what makes this inspection possible. This is definitely a uni-tasker tool, and a bit on the expensive side, but there is no finer way to get into a canister style filter.

Sometime next month we will start shooting our stories on the oil filters, but until then check out our latest SVTP Tool-Tech video coving the Longacre Oil Filter Cutter:

Not as in-depth or slick, but here is my review of the Proform Oil Filter Cutter. I'm also going to do a review of oil analysis (Blackstone Labs vs. Speediagnostix) in the near future.
