Hi. I have a small problem with my clutch on my 2008 Gt500.

It makes a somewhat scraping noice when i press the clutch down. Nothing if I stand still at a red light in neutral but as soon as I press the clutch down it begins. It doesn’t matter if I’m in a gear or not.

I was told that its a SPEC clutch in my car if that helps. Don’t know which one, I have recently bought the car and otherwise It runs fine. Also has a Trinity TVS installed.

Yes I thought so too, but the seller had a receipt for a slave cylinder from Brenspeed. From what i read that is the same thing as a Throw out bearing?

Surely it could be damaged and need to be replaced.... or maby mounted wrong? Which one should I buy? Am I correct that it doesnt matter which i choose even tho I have an aftermarket clutch, thinking about fitment, since the Throw out bearing is mounted in the transmission? Is there one that is more heavy duty?

Pilot bearing... maby I should get one of theese to when the transmission is out anyway? Same here, which one should I get?

I will be getting help from a friend taking the clutch apart, just want the right pieces from the beginning.

Yes, concentric slave cylinder = throw out bearing. Replace with OEM CSC and pilot bearing for a 2008. I haven't heard much good associated with aftermarket slave cylinders. Here are the part numbers that Evolution Performance installed on my car back in 2013 along with a SPEC SS and my clutch has been performing well.

CSC: 4R3Z-7A508-AA
Pilot bearing: 1C3Z-7600-AB

So i bought a McLeod Throw out bearing and a roller pilot bearing from CJponyparts, waiting for it to arrive.

Here is the thing. My friend who is helping me said its not uncommon for aftermarket clutches making this noise. Can this really be true? I would hate for us doing all that work and then it would still make that anoying noise... as I said before, there is only a noise when I press the clutch, otherwise its fine.

Also the unknown SPEC clutch I have is really grabby in first gear when standing still, leaving in first gear. Its kinda hard getting use to. Ive read that this is quite normal for a SPEC clutch? Or could this improve after the new throw out bearing is in place?

Its to the point Im thinking of having it replaced at the same time to a smoother option while the transmission is out anyway but really dont want to spend that kind of money right now...

No scraping with my McLeod RXT. I replaced my pilot bearing and slave cylinder about 6 months after I installed the clutch. Noisy worn slave cylinder, but nothing after that. Replaced with OEM slave.

Maby a stupid question.... can the noise have anything with the clutch bleed not being done correctly? Since the throw out bearing should have been replaced when the clutch was upgraded.....

Clutch master is self-bleeding, so I seriously doubt it unless there is a leak of some kind.

You said "should have been replaced"...do you know for sure if the TOB was replaced (or installed correctly)? As others have mention, the noise you mention sound like bad TOB or pilot. Mine failed and I needed a tow after I limped it into work. Sounded like a loose bag of gravel under the car, until is went 'POP' at the dealership parking lot.

I only have the sellers word for it and a receipt for a new one that I got with some other documentation for the car.
I have no reason not to believe him, the car was in better condition than he described and the pictures he e-mailed me. He told me about the noice in the clutch before I went to look at the car. I have driven a while with it now and it seems to run fine except for the noise. hopefully I can get the car on a lift and get the transmission out in a few weeks.

Anyone removed their transmission with Kooks longtubes installed?

You very time I had a t.o.b. issue, it is the opposite. You hear that chirping, until the pedal is pushed in.
Does it happen the other way around too?

So today I got the transmission out and replaced the TOB. Guess what, same noise...

The scraping/ratteling comes when I`ve push the clutch pedal half way down or all the way down. It doesn't matter if its in neutral or in gear, as soon as I press the pedal the sound comes.

If I have the clutch pressed to the floor and put it in first gear, it rattles, as soon as I let the clutch up a bit and the car starts to move, the noise disappears.

What could it be?!?!

I had a Spec clutch which also did chatter when depressed and did not make any noise sitting at a light in neutral....only as I depressed the clutch pedal. My McCleod RXT has slight chatter by comparison to the Spec. Both these clutches seemed way more grabby than stock....but what I felt was more important is the would bite and hold. I'm running an AFW with the McCleod.

So Is what I hear normal?
It sounds like marbles or something scrambeling around there when I press the pedal down. I really think its annoying and it seems of.

Yeah, i ONLY get the noise when i press the pedal down, nothing in neutral or while driving, and as soon as the car starts moving from a stand still, when the clutch is under load (?) the sound dissapears and the car runs just fine.

Welcome to aftermarket clutch life.
Did you determine the exact Spec model clutch?
I have an X-Force triple disc and it drives normal but also has a similar noise. It’s a first run trial and a sprung disc design may cure it.
Unfortunately all aftermarket clutches will make more noise than stock OEM.
I feel the ‘13-14 stock clutch is what 90% of guys here would want. If you don’t track race much, the stock clutch should last IMO.
