and for the record, be careful, when the ABS light is on the dash, Traction Control and the ABS system will not function with the light illuminated

So, my ABS light came on while my car was being retuned. In fact, it illuminated right after a new custom tune was loaded onto the car. I asked the tuner about it and he said that the ABS light had nothing to do with what he was doing. I quietly disagreed, scratched my head and accepted it, thinking that it didn't do that before the tune was loaded.

Fast forward a couple years to 2017. I had my rear seat cushion out installing a CDC light bar and what do I find.... the ABS connector (plug) was disconnected. I plugged that joker in and the light disappeared!!

I had a light come on and then it would go off when the car restarts. Ran the codes and it said that one wheel spins slower than the others. Turns out one tire was slowly loosing air... had 8 tiny little holes in it. Go figure.

Shane, would you happen to have a pic of where the connector plug is located?
Thanks.

I do not... but the connector is located under the rear seat cushion. The one that was disconnected on my car was found under the rear seat cushion on the driver's side. Its in the 'well' where people plant their butts, to be blunt. I was doing my light bar mod, looked down and noticed the plug completely disconnected. I had never messed with it before.

I also believe that the passenger side ABS harness comes through on the passenger side, so check that, too, if you decide to take the cushion out to check the driver's side.

Thanks man.

FWIW when I bought my car the ABS would turn off and on at random times. I tried to pull codes, but either there were none or it wouldn't communicate. Depending on it's mood. Eventually I bought a good from a member on here and swapped it in. All good since then. At least I think so. My gauge pod blocks the light now.

I assume you bought an ABS Module?

I'm having a similar issue as mentioned above. I got a Foxwell OBD2 reader that has the ability to read ABS and SRS codes - and plugged it in for the drive to work yesterday. As soon as the ABS light came on, I went through the menus and hoped for an error code, but it wouldn't communicate. I thought the code reader was just not good for the car.

But on the way home, before leaving the parking lot with engine on and ABS Light off, I plugged it in and after a little bit of time it did communicate with the car. So I left it reading the live data hoping I would see the error once the light came on, but communication was interrupted (unable to communicate) as soon as the ABS light came on.

Is it a good assumption to think in this case that the ABS Module is at fault?

That's exactly what mine did. When the light was on the module wouldn't communicate. When it was off everything worked normally. Well, I bought the whole assembly from someone that deleted their ABS. I only swapped modules though so I wouldn't have to deal with bleeding the brakes. I believe you only need to remove the module to send it in to be repaired.

ya, thats what mine did when the module went. It would read fine with the light off but not when it was on...then it just came on and stayed on

I sent the module off my ‘99 to cheapabs.com and that took care of it. There’s a bad connection in the abs module that the guy fixes. The stealership wanted to replace the module under the radio for ~$1200 since I had the communication error mentioned above.

I also had this issue back in 2006 and the stealership changed my ABS module under the factory warranty. I have not seen it come on again since.
