Just curious how the annual cost of one family home compares between our countries and between different states. Just the simple basics, sparked by some numbers I saw in another thread.
BC, Canada
For me on my 500k (assessed) house;
-property tax- $1200/year
-irrigation district/garbage pick up-$450/year
-home owners insurance-$1200/year
-natural gas bill- about $80/month
-electricity- 160ish bi monthly.

I know it'll vary a ton due to location and other aspects, but curious what others pay throughout.

I live way out in the country on a mountain side. Utilities are about 135 monthly, winter is more. Don't have cable, just internet.

Just county taxes which arent bad way out where i am.

No trash pick up. I pay a neighnor 25 to haul mine off when he takes his to the landfill.

With all the reno work we've done, house is worth about 300k. County still assess it on 250k though (last time I looked).

House value - 300k
Property Tax - 1500/yr
Power/Water/Sewage - 200/month
Insurance - 1500/yr

Trash/recycling is included in your taxes. Only thing that's high for us is the sewage/waste water because we are pretty much under sea level consistently.

This is USD
House value- 580k
Property tax- 7800 year

On septic- every 3-4 years it’ll need to be emptied apparently but we haven’t had to do it yet. Cost should be around 600-700 I’ve been told.

Water/natural gas/electric - around 200 a month
Insurance- 830 a year

The house is a bit over 2600 sq ft and the property is 1.7 acres

Are your numbers in American dollars or CAD? I assume nothing. This way we can do some analysis and see what the percentages are in inputs and outputs.

House Value - $609k
Property Tax - $11,987yr
Garbage and Water - $1650yr
Home Insurance - $780yr
Gas & Electricity - $2800yr (average $240 month) summer/winter months are high fall and spring are cheap.

Cad, house cost to tax ratio would be roughly the same. Either way thats some wild ass property taxes some of you have to pay but I'd assume you have lower income tax rates.

$1200 a year property tax on $500k home seems unreal.

House Value - $840k
Property Tax - $13,500yr
Garbage and Water - $1480yr
Home Insurance - $1340yr
Propane & Electricity - $1800yr
Septic - $200yr

3150 Sq. ft and 4 bd/3.5 bath

We only have propane for our cook top and fireplace. No natural gas. We also spray foamed all the exterior walls, ceiling and under the roof, making the place super efficient. Tankless water heater, metal roof, 17 SEER HVAC, complete LED lighting throughout keep the costs down.

Oil and pellets stoves 1,100 per year.. 2100 sq ft house. +500 sq finished basement. There's a lot of other taxes and expenses to live in CT but it may be off topic.

5.5 acres, about 20 miles SW of downtown Austin. Very rural, country area but crazy high school taxes.
