RegularCab,

Yeah the big functional issues with the reuse of the factory wiring are always PATS and cluster, followed by what to do for a fuel tank, pump and sender. There is a guy in Florida that can turn PATS off in the PCM.

You do not have to use electric steering, but if you want hydraulic then you need to figure out how to mount a PS pump onto the Eco. ABS delete is no problem, your existing 2001 system should still work if you keep your axles.

Good Luck!

Walt

Hi Walt,

I've run into a bit of an issue with Randy. He now claims that he will be keeping my deposit of $500 that I paid him for the 2.7 weeks before I saw the engine (and the 8" crack that foiled our deal) He claims that I spoiled the deal by not wanting to return to Phoenix to purchase the engine after he has repaired the crack. Odd turn of events, for sure, but there is one thing bothering me.

His friend Mel (I do not know his last name, but he is a helicopter pilot) was generous enough to help us while I was there. I would like to reimburse him for his time but do not have his contact info. Would you happen to have his phone number?

If you see this, thanks in advance.

Hi everyone. I'd like to suggest an option for the power steering issue. Some Toyota MR2s and some Volvos have electrohydrolic power steering pumps. These units sit on the body of the car vs the engine and require little wiring (for the mr2 pump anyway). I'm sure there are other makes and models that have this type of pump as well. One would have to make or have some custom lines made to transition from the electro pump to the rack. Most hydrolock shops can do this if you don't have the proper crimps to make your own.

This was a mod in the DSM community while trying to free up some hp by not having to drive the factory pump on an i4. Some grassroots racing people have also used these types of pumps building their cars. Just figured I'd try to help with the ecoswap discussion.

Just saw this and thought I'd share it here for anyone looking. He explains how to wire up the pump as well as hooking it up. Though one may not get as lucky for the same high pressure side fittings lol.

So I bought a 3.5tt for super cheap but I don’t have a computer with it. I see ford racing has a harness and computer but it says it’s only for CRATE engins. Will it wok on my motor? It’s a 2014 F150’s 3.5 Ecoboost. I am putting it in a 2009 V6 Mustang.

Yes, the Ford Racing harness and PCM kit should work on a 2014 3.5L eco. The documentation with the kit is pretty good.

Hello all, great info in this thread, I’ve been researching my swap tirelessly but have not had the best luck finding definitive, straight forward, well laid out answers.

Unfortunately, my swap is out of necessity. My 13 MKT 3.7 AWD has gone the way of so many others, death by water pump. While searching for a motor on a budget, I found an 18 RWD 3.7 out of a Ford Transit at my local pick n pull. I am interested in it because as I understand, these motors have an external WP so I wouldn’t be setting myself up for a potential repeat down the road.

What, if anything, needs to be done to get this to bolt up? Is it possible? I read something (possibly here) about starter location but are there other mods needed?

Prepared to buy an used awd crate if this is a fools errand, but the cost and WP benefit made me want to at least look into it. Thanks a million guys you will be helping me so much

You would probably be better served to make a new thread and that’s what they prefer here via bumping an old one.

Good luck getting it sorted
