I have an 01 Cobra vert, it's N/A. I'm 99% sure I have a spun rod bearing. I have $4200.00 to fix my snake, what would you do?

I'm in the same dilemma. I'm pretty sure that I have a de-laminated rod bearing, a lower end knock at very low RPMs. I'm guessing that 5K will give me forged internals. Probably a significant amount less if I went OEM with TTY bolts. eBay, Craigslist and Facebook Market Place might be a cheaper route if it is a DIY (excluding machine work).

For $4200? No way.

It wouldn't be a forged engine. But for a stock replacement it's possible. Especially if he's able to do the work himself. He just has to shop around a little for a used engine. He might have to settle for a cast crank with a 6 bolt flywheel though.

Depending on your skill level and on that budget I would look at a replacement/upgraded rotating assembly or an MMR street mod 600. I think you can save some $ if you ship them your block.

Scratch the Probe pistons. They don't have a good rep in the mod world. And I'd just keep your current heads if it'll save you a few bucks.

I saw that long block for sale. Let us know how it works out if you can. Are you shipping your car to that speed shop to get it installed?

Have you bought parts?

If not what are your goals for the car? NA? FI?

I too have just spun a bearing on my stock 01 coupe. Never took a DOHC engine down to the block, so it's a little out of my wheelhouse. Nor do I have the space to spread everything out while I try to rebuild it for a while.

With that being said, what ballpark would I be looking at to have someone rebuild it and keep it stock? It's only 2 years away from being a collector and would like to keep matching numbers and not swap out the engine. I am in the Milwaukee, WI area.

Any help is appreciated.

FWIW, the engines aren't numbers matching with these cars. What might be your best bet is finding a running used engine and swap it into your car and stick the original in a corner until you're ready to deal with it.

if the crank checks out ok Id probably just freshen up the block, throw in some terminator rods with ARP hardware, a decent piston, have the heads freshened up (seals and seats) and send it.

as mentioned numbers matching is no longer a thing

Heck, anymore a set of Boss rods might be enough and are pretty cheap.

Do you need forged internals? If staying n/a the answer would be no. An affordable fix would be an engine from a marauder or aviator which have better heads. With you cams it would have more power than your stock engine.
