Next time I drive a G70 I'll try the Sport mode. The Comfort mode just felt so "right" that I didn't feel a need to try a different Mode. I usually use Sport mode in my Edge for the improved throttle response, because in Normal mode it's honest disappointing. In it, Sport mode is for me a necessity.

I have the Livernois tuner for my Edge, but it's not transferrable to an ST. I already checked on that. I'd prefer on my next vehicle to not use a tuner, and instead keep it stock. The ST without a tune isn't going to feel much different than my Edge Sport, acceleration wise. Not so with the G70. It pulls strong and on the street it's plenty. The Edge has more storage space but I'm the only one that drives it and rarely use the space I have now. So an SUV isn't all that important for me, but I do agree overall the Edge is more practical. I just have a problem spending that much coin on a vehicle that lacks so much of what the G70 offers. The Challenger wouldn't be practical at all in the winter, so that's a big negative. Driving the Scat Pack in good weather would be a hoot, for sure. For me, the G70 fits in-between the two. Not quite as practical as the Edge but more practical than the Challenger Scat Pack.

I've got time to make my final decision, so that's a big plus. I'm not rushed in any way.

I can only tell you that the driver's door felt very solid when I closed it, and the car overall felt really solid. I would bet the steel thickness is greater in the Genesis. Here is a blurb form the WSJ about another Genesis model. "Hyundai has also put a lot of equity into high-strength steel, as compared with aluminum construction; and the numbers look good. Hyundai claims the Genesis chassis torsional and bending stiffness now exceeds that of a BMW 5-series."
Have you driven a Ford Fusion Sport?

Bob that’s a good looking car and they seem like they’re getting solid reviews.
I went back to a sedan from an SUV because I’m just a car guy I guess.

I'm the same way J. I hate driving the truck,I ONLY bought it because of our shit winters here in the norteast. I would much rather have a nice car like Bob ais looking at or a nice Audi. But the truck is key with the 4X4 and the ride height and being able to see over huge snowbanks. Also being able to go over piled up packed snow at the end of the driveway when I get home from work after it's been snowing most of the day is a bonus.

No, I haven't. I like luxury sedans and was going to look at a BMW but when I read the M/T COTY article I decided the G70 was a sedan I definitely needed to give a serious look. Do glad I did.

Always mistake that emblem for Chrysler.
Me, too. LOL. I guarantee if I do pull the trigger on the G70 that I'll get the occasional "hey, I like your Chrysler".

Yeah, I had a 2002 Infiniti QX4 SUV that I bought in late 2004 after selling my 2003 Cobra. I loved the QX4, but after driving it 5 years I tired of it and moved to a Buick LaCrosse, followed by a Mini Cooper S. I went back to an SUV in 2016 and have liked my Edge Sport a lot, but I'm again yearning for a sedan. A luxury performance sedan that won't break the bank.

On Monday I will be test driving a '19 Ford Edge ST. Just got off the phone with the salesman who sold me my Edge Sport. Next up will be a '19 Scat Pack test drive. Maybe one or two other sedans, too. I'll then make my decision and bide my time until my lease is up. I'll more than likely get out of my Edge lease 2 months early (July) so that I can enjoy the bulk of the summer in my new vehicle.

Awesome. Sounds like a great plan.
I didn't know the Scat Pak was on the list. That sounds like that may be a close contender to the Genesis. Good luck.

Agreed. I want to get a new Ram and the new GT500 to replace the Charger. I like cars and trucks, just don’t have the love for SUVs

I drive a chevy ss every day and love the power in a sport sedan. Thought about a scat pack when it's time to replace the ss but saw three of those cars at one intersection today. I like the car bu just too many of them on the road for me.

If you’re looking at performance sedans, you can be out the door with a loaded Fusion Sport for $35K.

The Hellcat surely is. The Chevy SS is, too. I'd love to have a wide-body Hellcat Challenger in a stable of maybe 4-5 other equally awesome rides. We all have favorites, for sure. It's just great that there are so many options available.

I just bought a Chevy SS 2014 with less than 24,500 miles. Traded both the Vette and my daily driver 2010 Pontiac Vibe for it

That Chevy SS looks good in all black. It's a shame it was discontinued.

Just saw an ad for the Alfa Romeo Gulia starting at $32k. Is the base model a lot different than the top model?

So the lease on my '16 Edge Sport is up in a few months and I'm checking out a few possible replacements, including a '19 Edge ST. I was leaning heavily to the Edge ST until I read the Motor Trend COTY review on the '19 Genesis G70; specifically the 3.3 liter twin-turbo version with 365hp. 0-60 in 4.6-4.7 seconds got my heart pounding a bit. I was very impressed with what I read in the article. Impressed enough to contact my local Genesis dealer to see if they had a 3.3T G70 (AWD) available for a test drive. I also found out that a loaded Edge ST had a sticker about the same as the 3.3T G70 (Prestige or Sport package). Time for that test drive.

This morning I made an appointment to test drive a 3.3T G70 (AWD). When I entered the Genesis dealership I came face to face with a Havana Red Limited Edition Dynamic 3.3T. Only 400 made as it's a limited edition. I slid into the driver's seat and it felt like the sport bucket Napa leather seat was molded for my body. After some discussion about the G70 model packages, I took the black 3.3T G70 for a spin. It was loaded with luxury features, as expected, but my drive was more focused on how the car drove and felt, since it would be short 15 minute drive. The interior quality overall blew me away, with high quality materials, intuitive controls, 15-speaker audio system, very supportive sport buckets, Brembo brakes on all 4 corners, and much more. The sound isolation was excellent, the 3.3 twin turbo engine (365/376) had plenty of grunt, and the 8-speed transmission shifted flawlessly. The G70 has 5 selectable drive modes. I left the tester in Comfort mode, which felt really good all around. I would expect the Sport mode would be really impressive on twisties.

I will still test drive the '19 Edge ST and a '19 Challenger Scat Pack (very different vehicles), but man, I am so freaking impressed with the 3.3T G70.

Here's a photo of the G70 model (3.3T AWD Sport package) I'm leaning towards. The Sport package comes with black chrome trim. My second choice would be the Prestige package which is about $1,500. cheaper. Soon enough, I will make my vehicle decision. I've got this strong feeling it will be the G70...in Havana Red! We'll see.

Wow they should pay you for that write up! Maybe you should consider a career in auto reviews? ;)

I'll have to check these out but based on the photos alone it seems like a great car. I also like the appearance of the interiors of the Genesis dealership if it looks like the photo you posted.
