End goal would be to have a 6-700 horsepower weekend car. The Boss 302 is one of my favorites at this time. I don’t think I would go for an automatic, I would prefer to row the gears. Has anyone driven both a 12-13 Boss and an 11-12 Gt500?
A buddy recently got a Boss. I plan on riding/driving it this Spring when the Indiana winter breaks. I could give a comparison then, but that may be too late for you.

$30k, I would get a 2012 Comp Orange Boss. Save up and swap to a better trans. Then put a Centri on it. Or I'd buy a 13-14 Premium GT with a 6-spd and do a turbo. You'll safely make more than 600+ whp. You could do that for under $30k. Then save up for a built short block.
I had a 2012 GT with the MT-82 and now have 2014 GT with the 6R80. I wish I would've get a stick. Yes the A6 is faster but no where's near as fun.

Pretty vague thread. Is OP looking for something stock at or around $30k, or a car for $10k that he can throw $20 at it?

"Best mustang under $30k" is about as open ended as it gets. Might as well ask "best exhaust" too while were at it.

Fair enough. I’m just curious on everyone’s thoughts for 30 grand all in, whether you spend 20 grand plus 10 or 30 grand just for the car.

Best deals I have seen lately on 11-12 GT500s. Great all around car stout motor, hold their value good and can be had for around 30k if you really are patient.

I love the boss, it’s a great car. However I just love the supercharger sound and ease of upgrading.

Here is my 2 cents for what is worth 30k is easily a general budget for whatever you wish to do. I believe through my years of wrenching and buying and losing money that half the fun is building the sucker and yes the headaches and satisfaction when you progress to another stage in the build. We all know these things are never done at all. My opinion? Buy an sn95-new edge for scraps, then throw it in the shop for new paint, in the mean time purchase built block from mmr or the sort and add 4v heads, single turbo or twins, good quality k member with viking shocks all around. Then maximum motorsports rear set up, t56 and you will still have 10 grand to take wifey to dinner for the next 10 years. I would hate to spend 30k on a boss the start throwing money at it. New tranny, blower, dyno blah blah blah.

If you want a fun to drive car with one of the best sound tracks and an honest 7500 rpm power peak, the Boss is it. The Boss will run high 11s with DR stock and is one tossable fun ride. It is imo the most fun to drive Mustang.. but maybe I’m biased.
If you are looking to make big FI power, for 30k all in you are looking at a built Terminator or a 07-10 GT500 with a blower upgrade.

People keep mentioning the Boss but doesn’t the 2015 Mustang with performance pack have the same capability if you put an intake and tune on it? Would they both handle well and have similar dyno sheets? I know the Boss has a solid rear. Can anyone school me on this?

But the rub of that is the GT is just another Mustang GT, plus Ford is still making them, while the Boss was only made for 2 years period.

I agree. The rarity of the boss really has me leaning towards it. I just hope I can find a 13 with less than 30k on it for 25-27 grand in a year or so.

Terminator is easy power but interior is unfortunately dated and cheap. I REALLY miss my 04 Comp Orange Cobra with a Twin Screw but my 11 5.0 was leaps and bound interior wise. I'd go Boss 302...always wanted one.

Boss has forged pistons, s550 does not. Solid axle like you mentioned, then of course there’s the fact that the 13-14 s197 is probably the best looking mustang ever.....

Ever? Naw.

But certainly one of the best, and absolutly the best S197. To bad you can't get a 12/13 with the +15 interior.
