So I’ve been wanting to make a build thread to keep myself motivated and share with you guys. I have a little story behind how this build all came about so here goes...

Around September of 2017 I went through a bad breakup with my ex girlfriend and I went down a hole bad. I started drinking heavily and doing drugs bc my heart was broken, like completely shattered. I had already bought a ring to marry this girl and she left me. So after months of that going on, my brother convinced me to go with him to Ponies in the Smokies to try and get his 87 Saleen signed by Steve Saleen. I was so messed up at that point and I thank my brother everyday for making me go with him bc this is when my life turned around. We loaded his car up and headed up the mountains and made it there just in time when Steve had just started signing cars and boom, mission accomplished.

So after that we walked around inside and that’s when I saw it, a pristine 04 Mystichrome convertible. I’ve seen them before but none as clean as this one and I guess it was the lighting(and of course the paint lol) but I fell in love right there with the Mystichromes. I’ve had 2 Zinc Yellow beets and 2 Sonic Blue verts and I owned one SB when I was with my ex so I figured it was time for a change and the search began for my next cobra.

It took me all of 19 days and I found 2 at high end auto, one with 50k miles for $28k and one with 120k miles for $14k. I ended up buying the 120k mile one bc I knew I was gonna end up with a turbo car.

The car was a 1 owner car driven by a lady who was a Dr. and it still had the air silencer in the fender well!! Well within 2 weeks it had a 2.9 pulley, MGW, bassani x pipe, Borlas, and a lightbar. I finally let the drugs go and slowed down on the alcohol and was happy again that I was back in a cobra! I drove her to the beach, up the blue ridge parkway, everywhere. I never pushed her hard bc I’ve had 4 before and never took this one over 100mph. Well after 4 months or so, I started losing compression in the 5th and 6th cylinder so out came the motor and tranny and time for a turbo!!

I found a complete hellion 76mm kit on here with less than 5 miles on with a full Maximum Motorsports front end. I also bought a stock 03 cobra block, rods, heads, and valve covers as well. I flew out to Salt Lake City to buy it and have it shipped back.

I got back and ordered a full Fore triple pump fuel system, McLeod RXT1200, and in the process of ordering a Holley EFI kit now. I’m planning on doing the whole install myself except for the motor work. My friend owns a machine shop and I dropped the motor off with him and it should be ready within a couple weeks. In the next post, I’ll write a complete list of what’s going to be done and will post more pictures as I go along.

Thanks guys, it’s been a hell of a road for me and now the fun stuff building the car is starting. So I have a few pictures of where I’ve already put the MM k-member, coilovers, and CC plates on but didn’t document them that well unfortunately. From here on out I’ll be taking a lot more pics for sure. So here’s a quick rundown of what the build will consist of

2003 Cobra Iron Block
Stock 03 rods
CP Pistons
Ford Primary timing chains
Accufab Secondary and tensioner
Stock 03 heads
Melling oil pump and gears
Stock water pump

Built T56 with 26 spline, billet keys, bronze pads, carbon fiber rings
Mcleod RXT1200 with lightened steel flywheel

Fore Innovations Lvl4 Return Style
Triple pump system
-10 feed -8 return
Gonna run E85

Rear end is stock as of now and gonna get the car up and running so I can enjoy it. I have my cousins IRS that I’m gonna build on the side with all the goodies and when it’s done, I’ll just pull mine and put that one in so the cars only down for a day or so.

Planning on going Holley EFI when the funds allow it lol but probably gonna get it up and running with the stock computer for now. Not entirely sure about this part but we will see. Well here’s some pics of the progress so far....

honestly the car is cool. That's great. What excites me the most is that you're getting healthier. Breaks my heart to hear people struggling with depression strong enough to self medicate. Been there myself and I wish it on no one. I"m a complete stranger (an internet one at that) but if you ever need to vent to someone who gets it shoot me a pm. Have fun with the build!

Yea I’ve battled depression my whole life so that was the worst thing I could have done was to self medicate. I actually got so messed up bc I was heartbroken and just wanted to die that they found me on the floor of my restaurant unconscious at 7am and I don’t remember how I got there. That’s when I knew it was time to get a hold of myself and literally a week later is when my brother made me go to PITS and I’ve been clean ever since. I still get down sometimes so I will for sure be in touch if I need to talk, thanks so much man, people don’t understand how much it helps to talk and I learned that the hard way. But now my car addiction leaves me penniless so I don’t have the money to buy drugs if I wanted to:D:D. Ok back to the turbo build now!

Please put some fender covers on there.

Lol that was right when the car came home from my buddies shop and the first thing I did was take the fenders off and put the car on jack stands to do the suspension. Plus I’m gonna try and do a full wire tuck so they’ll be off until the car is pretty much done.

Finally started the fuel system last night. As you can see from the kitty litter, the tank still had some gas in it and I spilled some all over the floor, good times lol. Talked to my motor guy and I’ll have the motor back next week so gotta get moving on this thing.

Question for the turbo guys running a Fore FC3 controller and Hobbs switch. Where did you run the Hobbs switch to for a boost reference so the second pump can kick on when the turbo goes over 5lbs if boost? It says in the instructions to not use a vacuum line and I can’t use the stock boost line behind the passenger side dash obviously since I’ll be going turbo instead of a blower.

Also which line or lines did you guys run to the 2nd and 3rd pump to get the pumps to act like stock instead of running all the time? I read Malcolm’s write up and inboxed him bc I got confused bc from what I read, he was using a relay instead of the FC3 controller.

Still haven’t figured out the wiring yet but I did get the hat installed....almost. I got everything buttoned up and the plastic piece on the fuel level sender snapped in half:mad::mad:. So I have to buy a new sender, do you guys know if the sensor is cobra specific or will one out of a GT work? I looked on lethal and they are $132, hot damn lol.

That sucks. I will say I had a hell of a time getting my sender snapped onto the hat. Also before you button up your tank make sure all wiring is well clear of the float. I had to drop my tank twice to get that all sorted and my gauge reading right.

Yea it sucks lol. I put everything together and the float came off so I took it down. Then I forgot the gasket so I took everything apart a second time. Went to put it back for the 3rd time and this happened lol, I have no luck at all.

So does anyone know if I can just use a sender from a GT and put the float on the GT one or does it have to be a cobra one?

I think the sending units are different between the single pump and dual pump set ups. Probably due to length of the arms to get around the baffling in the dual pump tanks.

The reason I say that is the actual sending unit in mine is out of my old 01 Cobra. But its hooked up to the float from an 04. It doesn't read as linear as when I had the stock 04 set up in my car. And around half tank will take roughly 10 gallons to fill. So it takes a while to move from full. Full to half is decent. Half to quarter is a suggestion. And quarter to empty is basically not there. If that makes sense.

That’s what I was thinking in my head but I just wanted to make sure before I bought one and installed it for like the 4th time and had to pull it again, I would have been pissed lol. Thanks brotha
