Who says it’s faster than a GT?

I think it’ll lap VIR in the low 2:40/high 2:30 Range, that swaps well with the 647hp FGT.

I think it’ll lap leguna around 1:33 which is close to the gt.

Considering all things I think the gt500 will be about as quick as a Ford gt streetcar.

Lots of plastic under there. Let the mods begin !!

While Ford could do a better job of organizing the engine bay, I feel that the aftermarket for mustangs have done a very respectable job designing and producing quality dress-up parts in the past. Some may say that paying premium for a Shelby should warrant an already aesthetically appealing engine bay, however what is acceptable for some may not be for others. So, its subjective in nature.
If I purchase a car like this, I would most likely buy aftermarket dress up parts anyways, so the lack of under hood organization doesn't really bother me.

The GT ran .38 at Vir with more in it. The 500 will be at least 2 seconds behind.

Maybe for a lap or two it’ll be somewhat close. The GT will walk away from it over the course of a 20 min session though. That SC heat will catch up with it sooner or later.

That's a huge wildcard, heat soak. Will the GT500 be able to go toe to toe with the ZL1 1LE in serious heat/humidity without going into limp mode first?

They’ve literally had years to develop a 1LE beater. It would be the fail of the century if it doesn’t come out on top in every performance metric.

I hear you there. My concern is with (what could be) a near 100hp bump over the ZL1-1LE that it'll hit and exceed the cooling threshold much quicker. Hopefully the huge hood opening and optimized aero give the cooling system as much help as possible at speed.

True.
I think Ford has one of the most aftermarket options out of all the Big 3 for just about anything on a Mustang.

Now the stake are even higher for Ford with Chevrolet releasing a 10 speed ZL1 1LE this month after Ford debut the GT500.

A 10a and a dct are worlds different on a track. I’d rather have a manual than the 10a on a track.

A year or two ago, Randy Phobst tested a manual and auto zl1 (if I recall) same day/track and the manual was faster in his hands by a bit of a second.

Thing is, a slow downshifting auto is very frustrating on a circuit, and the paddles become laughably innacurate. Click. Wait. Gears down.

Dct is loaded and waiting, entirely different thing. Clickshift. Bam. It’s instant.

Go flog an 8a z06 and a 7spd z06, you’ll see.

Agreed. Will be interesting to see how the DCT performs and hopefully negates the Camaros weight advantage. The real question is will Chevy drop in the 755hp ZR1 engine to the Camaro. I’m still confident in the GT500 combo wins out, but weight is always the wildcard.

Wow, can you imagine if they did that?? If it had the 755HP and 715TQ? I would imagine that they would sell a lot of them. Heck, I might even be interested! lol
The best part,......walk into any Chevrolet dealership and place your order. I wish Ford would make that way for the new GT500 as well.

The new gt500’s engine bay looks as good as the demons or the camaro’s to me. Modern bays need less plastic and more painted/coated metal, aluminum, and magnesium stuff. If cheap asses like me can shill for decent stuff, these companies can too. The plastic is a joke.

I like ford’s engine bay better than the chevy’s because it’s not all plastic. Who wants tons of painted plastic everywhere? Go back to colored head covers though. The gt500 should have deep rich blue valve covers. I know the hellcat red eye has black heads while the hellcats have orange heads. I like those kinds of changes.

Won’t help with the weight issue though...

I keep staring at it and wondering if I could ever do orange.

The test for me is what does the car look like a few years down the road...an ugly anomaly or really good the entire time.

So I asked myself the same question when I bought my go mango hellcat back in 2016.....well here I am in 2019 and almost 80k miles on it and the color has “aged” well on me. I was mildly worried it might get to be too much but that just hasn’t been the case.
