To make things simple I bought a new 2018 Mustang gt 4 months ago. Wife wasn’t happy but I got it anyways. Her thing was it didn’t fit 3 kids , blah blah. I strictly bought the car just for me . Yes it was a bit selfish but since I sold my 04 cobra in 2011 i was dieing to get back in one. The kiddo thing I didn’t care about since we have a 04 4Runner , 03 corolla and a 13 Jeep 4 door wrangler. So I felt the family was secure as far as ease of getting in and out. So basically I got a car that just drives me to work or if we get a baby sitter the wife and I can go out. So now after a few months have set in the wife’s I told you so , I kinda feel she was right. So I have a few options on the table.
1: simply do nothing and enjoy when I can
2: trade mustang in and get a 392 charger
3: trade mustang in and trade our 13 wrangler in for a new 18 or 19 super duty 4x4 diesel xlt or lariat
I’m already paying about 1 k between both vehicles so that’s why I was contemplating spending 60 to 70k on the f250 not 100 percent what the payment would come out to? I got a really good deal on the mustang but I’m sure I’ll loose money and I’ll make some on the Jeep so it may be a wash.
Either way I think I’m in a buyers remorse stage due to my situation at 37 years old.

So what do you guys think? If I do the trade I can always get another mustang once the kiddos are older driving themselves around.

Do you need a F-250?

I feel some like the look of them but then realize it's a huge truck and can be a PITA if you take it to certain places(parking.)
Add in diesel maintenance, it's not exactly a cheap truck.

If you like power, and want room for the kids, the Charger is a good option.

Liking the 392 Daytona out of all of the 392 variants.

The thing about new diesels is, emissions killed the fuel economy. I have three kids and tow a lot. My F350 crew cab is a towing, kid hauling machine, but the best I’ve done is 16 mpg unloaded. If I didn’t need it’s capacity I’d be looking at a 150.

How old are the kids and what is the car seat situation for them?

Without knowing what your finances are like, I would try to get rid of one of the car payments. I consider $500 a month pretty damn pricey and to make 2 payments like that is just nuts to me.

Sell the Mustang, eat the loss.
Pay off the Wrangler.
Experience not having $1k in car payments a month then decide if you want to go back to that....
If I had 3 kids, I would be saving my money so I could have the financial ability to spend with my kids when they are older...

Unless you can get out of the Mustang without a loss it will be.. a loss.

I totally get where youre coming from if its regret from the purchase due to payment. I felt that way instantly after riding off a Haley dealer lot with my new 2007 Fatboy. It didnt help that I realized I chose the wrong Harley family but thats another topic entirely.

You have to really sit down and figure out if you can even get out of the Mustang being so new. Sure people can tell you to sell it, but if you have any negative equity you have to pay for it if market value is lower than what you owe. Unfortunately a Mustang GT isnt a Cobra or Shelby so youre probably going to take bath on it to get out of it.

Ive also played the "trade out of it to try and get out of debt" and it doesnt work like that. Its still DEBT. Depending on how much you owe on the Jeep, Id work hard to get that PAID OFF and keep it then focus on the Mustang. Id bet that payments on a Super Duty trading in the Mustang and Wrangler would still be around 1K a month. The negative equity is going to kill you.

Id say you have the family vehicles covered. Theres nothing wrong with wanting a toy for yourself. But trading and buying another vehicle will only make your situation worse. I say keep Mustang, pay of Wrangler as fast as possible then repeat with Mustang.

@cbr repsol czy I am in the same boat (well kinda), I am looking at purchasing a new leftover 2018 gt auto base, I am getting almost 5k off and 0% for 72, I haven't purchased yet but plan on going after work to "look at it", I am married with a 14 yr old and 15 month old twins, we have a sienna and F150 so a kid hauler is all covered, I just don't want to get into this then regret it shortly after...

This....unless you can't get anywhere close to pay off on the Mustang. In that case, acknowledge you made a mistake, and just enjoy the car.

I think it's more of a financial issue.

OP if you can afford it, throw some boost at the 18 GT and reduce it to weekend duty. My car just turned a year old and has 2900 miles on it.. it's just a toy, makes a lot of power, and is very fast at the track---even at shit bag Fontana drag strip.

Boy oh boy do i enjoy getting into that thing and letting it eat. BTW, my kids ADORE it too... and i have 4 of them. Wife tolerates it because she knows this stuff is my passion.

If you can afford it, build it and make it more fun.

If you are having trouble affording it, dump it, take your losses and start over. Unfortunately, Mustang GTs are worthless and you'll take a bath on it.

I got rid of my camaro recently.. took a bath on it.

But clearing out the payment was worth it.

Knowing I have that extra money monthly is way better than “ oh you have a cool car in the garage “

Maybe.

Where are you putting the extra money? If the answer is 60 beers on Saturday vs. 30................... i'd rather have the Mustang. :)
