Just a caveat here. I spent a lot of time meeting with the sheriff up there a few years back. Speeders will not find this area a GSP or other police "friendly" area as the number of Atlanta lunatics have caused a tremendous increase in accidents. It's not the hitting on one tree that gets you..it's the hitting of one, two, three and so on as you plummet down a 1000ft or so. Police tired of the rescues due to speed and you can expect getting maxed out on fines if caught. Last time I was up there I was in my 03 Cobra and was followed around like crazy...

Having said that..I recommend coming up on state hwys such as hwy 1 through Swainsboro-to Wren..Hwy 1- to ( I think 221)- to 78 to 17- --will take you the backroads (you will see folk selling boiled peanuts on the side of the road- gotta try them) through Elberton, Toccoa, Clayton ..you have to hit 441 and go to the gorge..spend some time there and proceed up 441 past Dillard..and take the scenic road to Highlands.(Hwy 106).it's a right turn after Dillard and you see a waterfall in the distance so you can't miss it. A lot a twisties and waterfalls into Highlands area.

If you camp/rent up in North Ga.- (I rented a place on Lake Rabun) you will want to bring your own water. The picture in my sig, is from Brasstown Bald Mtn...great scenery

Yep I live in Big Canoe which is pretty much the foothills of the N GA Mountains. Lot of beautiful scenery and awesome road. Stop by the shop and say hey on your way. Some truly great driving up here.

Agreed
I need to make another trip to the shop Curtis. It's been a while.

What specific route or roads are you referring to there?

Blue Ridge Highway you can pick it up around Cherokee / Bryson City not the Tail but it has so nice twisties. Can’t remember( I’m picking up food right now in a busy place, no time to look) what highway in Ga crosses into western NC

Ga 441 to Hwy 106-goes to NC and at the stop sign turn left to Highlands...twisty rd. and lots of waterfalls.

Since you are coming up from Fl- that means either I 75 or I 95 to I 16.
I would go 75 and hit hwy 1 and go backroads..75 is too busy and I 95 is where inattentive drivers go to die.

GSP is trained that way- partly in response to those who insist on video taping everything. Partly in response to if they have to pull you for a violation-they must have valid reason and give ticket. Again media showing pullover, and to show their is no harassment...everybody get same treatment. I would say video taping caused this.

GSP has no mercy. I don't think I have ever gotten a warning. If pulled expect a citation.

Only time Ive been pulled by GSP was for doing 92 in a 70 on I85 about to cross back into SC. My wife (girlfriend at the time) told him she had a pending bathroom emergency and we were jus trying to make it to the welcome center across the bridge. He was polite, ran my license and sent us on our way.
