Several good 17” DRs that allow you to run 17x9.5-11.5” and not change rear brakes on the ‘13-14.
I ran 18” rears with 750+rwhp and went upper 130s trap at strip.
If you can afford the ‘13-14 go for it.

That was something I thought of, is 17” the smallest you can go in the rear without having to downsize the breaks? I saw weld wheels has 15 and 17 as options. How tall of a rear tire were you running? I assume with north of 700-800rwhp you’ll need 28” tires.

Well, if the car has been ALREADY sleeved you'd have to find out whats in there. Id bet most people had aftermarket forged pistons installed. Assuming its all stock internals, it will have the Mahle forged pistons in it.

As for what you should do, gotta be diligent. If youre buying a car thats already been built, Id want receipts of all labor and parts purchased for the build.

Ive come around to the idea of biting the bullet and getting my block sleeved. No point in going this intensive with mods and trust the PTWA liners. Its taken me some time to come around to this thinking lol. But researching more about the liners, and people's experience has me thinking im better served spending Camshaft money on a properly sleeved block.

Agreed. Would definitely want a full build list of exactly what was put into the car as well as receipts if possible. There is a pretty impressive sounding 2011 for sale right now in the gt500 section, to me that sounds like a very well done car, have you seen it yet?

Yeah, I would think sleeves would be the wiser choice over cams.

Basically it boils down to this, if you want more than 750-800whp and not worry about the engine then it needs to be fully built and the cost of building an aluminum 5.4 or 5.8 can vary from $15k-25k. After you get that out of the way choosing which year GT500 comes down to styling and amenities options.

I assume that is including labor? MMR has a 1500rwhp shortblock on their site that is about $10k with a sleeved 5.8 from them.

Yes 17” is the smallest you can go on stock rear ‘13-14 brakes. Still, there are awesome DR options in 17”, including a DOT bias ply for strip.
For the street, yes minimum 28” for your power goals. I ran 10s on 20” 315/35/20 Nitto NT05R so you can still hook big power with 17-20”.
This season with 1000rwhp I’ll be running 315/50/17 MT ETRs at close to 30” on the street. Beefy :)

In winter hibernation now. I posted some pics with the new Wildwoods and Welds, but it’s on strip 15” bias plys now, I’ll be ordering the 17x11s Welds soon.

Not sure how they advertise that it is a 1500 whp motor. They list parts but not machine work. Is it billet oil pump gear? Also that is just the short block so add another 7k to 10k for headwork, cam, timing gear, valve work, etc etc and you are looking at >$25k. My full build which is good but not crazy will cost $27k once the dust settles.

That's what the short block is rated to handle, assuming you can put a top end together to test it. Nothing wrong having a bottom end that's overkill for your power goal. I felt better with the I-beam over the H-beam with this long stroke motor.

I went with H beams after reading about JDMs experience with these. They beat the shit out of their cobra jets far more than I will and IIRC have never had a rod break.

They advertise the rotating assembly/internals at 1500, not the entire engine

After a recent conversation, Ive decided to ditch any plans for MMR parts usage. While this means Ill spend more money, I hope to avoid the issues I was made privy to.

Like what?

They are only 2 hours from me... are they really that bad?

Seems they hold some impressive drag racing records

Even if you are buying not building, make sure that you are complete expert beyond asking questions on the forum. Like hours and hours reading everything you can.

Like it! Good advice.
And than remember, only 5% of what you read on the internet is truth; the other 95% is gonna be your real world experience.

I highly recommend taking a ride in a 750rwhp Shelby if you've never experienced that kind of power. Its pretty wild. wayyy different experience than a Coyote. and I've had both at that level.
