As I sit here waiting for my turn to get my haircut, I am waiting next to a guy with hair that is bald on top, an looks like it had a #1 taken to it yesterday.

I see this quite often, but have never understood why guys such as this don’t have a pair of clippers on stand by at home, rather they spend $___ every so often to have someone do it for them. It’s not as though they are receiving a style or skin taper; it’s usually zip and go....

Not judging, I’ve just been genuinely curious about this for a while.

I seen this this past weekend when I took my son. Im bald myself & clip my own. I wondered the same thing as this girl desperatly tried to make it seem like she was really cutting his hair. To me it looked like he was just a balding man in denial just like my brother is.

Bought a pair of nice clippers and the wife cuts my sons hair (2 y/o) now as well. Paid for themselves in about a month. Just makes sense now that I’m past the denial stage and just do a #1 everywhere :p

I cut mine at home with an 1/8" guide comb and the wife trims my neck. I've been doing that for 20 years and have saved a few pennies since I'm sure. For the last 5 years or so, I've been cutting my wife's hair as it's stupid simple to take a 1/4" off the ends.

I razor shave my head...every other morning. I do the back by "braille", meaning I shave it by feeling it with my fingers to make sure I didn't miss any.

Oddly enough, sometimes when I take my son to get his haircut they ask if both of us are getting cuts. I literally have a Michael Jordan cut (except I'm white). What could you possibly do to "cut" my hair?

BTW, some guys can pull off the bald look...I happen to be one of them. I have a perfectly shaped head and the right features to do so. I've seen some guys who look awful with a bald head and others who don't shave but they should. LOL Hanging on to scraps.

Bald isn’t a number 1.

Also I go to the barber shop for a straight blade on my head when I get too lazy to do it on my own.

When you’re bald nothing feels better than a straight blade

I did the same, ONCE.
Bought the clippers and had my wife hit me with a #2. She fought with me and didn't want to do it. She was afraid she would screw it up.
Finally I got her to do it for me. She's standing there, chatting it up with me while giving me a trim. We were having a good time.
Then she got quiet.
When she was trimming my sides (by the ear) she cut one at normal length, and the other was just about flush with the top of my ear.
Had to wear a hat EVERYWHERE for a month, and that sucker was pulled way down as far as I could get it.o_O

1 - buy a $40 set of decent clippers

2 - spend 30 seconds searching YouTube for DIY trimmer vid

3 - spend 5 minutes watching the how-to vid

4 - get wifey to clean up the back of the neck area

5 - save $20+ every month for the rest of your life not having to pay & tip the barber, all while having 100’s of smokin’ hot chicks wanting to bang you because of your awesome tight trim job

Cutting my hair is equal to carving a pumpkin. Like you, it is a 0 / no guard on the sides and back. Blending, fading, and then shaping the top with shears is not something I care to experiment with.

If I wanted to shave my head, I would grab my trimmers, run over it all without a guard, and then shave the stubble.

I do maintain my own beard. I don't trust anyone else to get it right.

the fade and blending is easy, if you **** up, just shave it...I will probably start taking it all the way down soon enough, getting a little thin up top now.

A few years back I had a really good looking cutter with long blonde hair, big firm fake boobs and leopard print spandex yoga outfits. Looked like she should have been a high class peeler but had too much class.

Her shtick was to make a big fuss over tousling your hair every which way to be sure it looked 'just right'. While doing this she of course spent a bit of extra time with you, made you feel special and rested her fancy boobs on your shoulder against your neck as she reached from behind to your hair on top and in front. She would always have you facing the mirror when this went on.

She usually had a line four deep waiting while often the other cutters had zero. I think most guys tipped full cost of cut or even more as she really was giving value for money. After all, fair is fair. She was even a very skilled cutter. I described it to my wife. She called BS so I made her come along to witness. Fully successful.

She quit one day and I heard she started working out of her house. Another cutter said she had gotten tired of sharing the proceeds with the owner of the store and was now making a fortune! I believed it.

I never went back. Bought a clipper set and good scissors and watched videos, like some here have recommended. If you are great at backing up a boat trailer (left is right and vice versa) you can easily become great at cutting your own hair with a mirror assist.

As others have also said, it's probably best to get the wife to do the neck and check the back for missed or uneven. Don't expect her to lean her tits into you or tousle your hair, though. Not sure why but that just doesn't happen. It's probably still a good idea to tip her, though.
