I'm curious why Ford would limit the power on the ford GT to only 647. Would it really have hurt to get the car to put out over 700? the 650 number has been around since 2009 (639hp ZR1).

I don't think they limited it? That's just what they came up with.

The FGT racecars only have 500hp or so.

If you have 1/2 million dollars to spend on a Ford GT, I applaud you for your accomplishments. I agree though, many will never see one in person, let alone drive or own one.

So you need to carry VHT in the trunk every time you want to lay down a hero run? I will pass.

770tq through 14.55 total gear reduction in first gear or 9.70 total gear reduction in second. This isn't taking torque converter multiplication into account.

You act like your 2011 GT500 doesn't spin it's tires all over the place too, and it's much less powerful with less gearing.

Haven't even watched the video, probably won't. I don't expect the demon to give it much of a challenge in a half mile setting. The demon is seeing an aero deficit compared to the GT under 100mph. Should be a walk in the park for the GT.

What do you think about in the first 1/4 mile though?

But but but the GT is dedicated road course car that is slow on the top end with all the crazy aero . GT without the are would have put bus lengths on the Demon . you guys don't know it's all about the aero

I don’t have a 2011 GT500. I sold that car a year ago, partly because it could not put the power down even with much less hp than the Demon. To each their own. If Demon owners love their car good for them. I am just saying that having that powerful of a car that just spins the tires doesn’t appeal to me especially at that price tag.

Ok so I watched the race. Hard to tell on my phone but it sounds like the demon was launched in first with light throttle the shifted to second, still light on the throttle and finally matting it in the top half of second.

Traction issues. Imo, I think the demon did very well in the half mile. Once traction wasn't an issue, you can see the aero and gearing working well for the GT. That's where it was designed to be best at.

Fair enough. A slower car is more fun to drive balls out than a faster car that doesn't have traction.

The GT has a .25 Cd, the demon has a .376 CD. The difference is enourmous.

Yeah this is about the only guy I have seen running his FGT hard. I believe it is a better performer (in a straight line) than most people give it credit for. Due to lack of videos like this one.

I poke around the ford gt forum and guys do run their cars more than I expected. They just don't talk about it and post videos.

Brooks makes a lot of money doing stuff like this so you see a lot of content from him.

Ford GT coefficient of drag in V-max mode (lowest) is .388 according to Ford.

Feel free to visit a track, and then play on an airstrip. Two different worlds. You don't have to like the truth, it isn't going to change.

different strokes different folks.

Some guys like High Horsepower, some dont.

There's ways to make high HP cars hook, though. Trust me ;)

Ya I said the same thing like 10 posts ago but I guess no one saw it? If you haven't run a half mile event the surfaces are shit, especially down in fla. Hence why no one drag races at them. A LOT of the time the faster car crosses the line last.

Aren’t these types of event more about speed than E.T.? According to the guy on the video, it sounds like they were very close in speed. Two VERY differemnt approaches obviously.

I was at a airstrip mile event a few years back and saw basically every 1,000-2,000hp car running no better than 10’s. No one gave a rip about time though All anyone cared about was speed.

correct.

In 1/2 mile / mile / 1.5 mile - No one gives a shit about how long it takes to cross the beams, people care about how fast you crossed them at.
