Alright so your s197’s trans is becoming too unbearable for you, you’ve busted a gear or two, it's become so noisy your beautiful fire breathing Stang now sounds like a factory forklift when changing gears. Now you happen to get your hands or find a too good to be true deal on one of the S550’s mt82. But your major concern is ‘Will it work with my S197?’. Well fasten your seat belts crowd mongers, I'm about to walk you through getting that 3 legged mt82 into your untamed monsters.

Here's our mighty but still junky 2017 GT Mt82 with 18k miles, shagged this one up from a local who missed the crowds and hit a wall instead, the wall won. (jk)

First get the shifter arm out of the way, top bolt is 10mm, bottom arm bolt is 13mm.

-Next, get the s550 clutch line out of the way, and discard or sell it. Its too short for your s197. Our s197s got the longer ones (chick magnet)

-Now if you still have the rubber output shaft bushing attached, unbolt and discard it, 18mm bolts. I believe that was fords way of tricking some of the cluck noise...don't even think about it, that rubber won't work with your s197.

Get the flange stud bolt removed, that's a 30mm stud bolt, and make sure to get a 30mm deep socket to clear the bolt stud.

Using a 3 Jaw 5 or 7 Ton puller, and any puller base (like an impact socket or the stud bolt you removed).

Here's the new flange kit for the S197 setup.
11-14 MT82 Flange BR3Z-7089-A
11-14 MT82 Flange dust shield: BR3Z-7F273-A
11-14 MT82 Flange bolt: BR3Z-7L013-B

IMG_2039.JPG

Place the flange aligned with the transmission output shaft and with a dead blow hammer or mallet lightly and carefully knock the flange into place.

Then using the previously removed stud bolt fasten the new flange all the way to the base of the output shaft, torquing to 148ft lbs.

IMG_2029.JPG

Remove the stud bolt, then install the 11-14 flange bolt and torque to 133ft lbs.

You’re done, your new mt82 is ready for your S197 coyote. Go forth and devour more crowds.

Yeah the 13 i had was pretty bad, had these new one in now for almost 2 months and its very different, well mannered and very less clunky.

Did they change the gear ratio in the 15-17 over the 11-14s? I know the 18s had some improvements and different gear ratio in the trans.

Sorry to resurrect this post but I just bought a Calimer stage 2 and will be going to opposite way with the conversion and was trying to verify parts as I would like to keep the tranny that I'm pulling out together. I found the flange part number but can't find the flange bolt or if it's required the dust shield part numbers.

Please I need to find this spare BR3Z-7089-A is a Flange - Main Shaft Output, some web pages say they have the spare part but then they tell me that it is in backorder but I urgently need at least two pieces of this spare BR3Z-7089-A. Who has this piece that can sell it to me?

Resurrecting this post from the dead here..... I own a 2013 Boss 302 and my 4th gear is gone in the old MT82. If I wanted to upgrade to the gen 3 MT82 (Part no: BR3Z-7003-A) am I able to use my existing clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel? Outside of those three flanges you have mentioned, is this a straight swap?

Yes the 15-17 mt82 will work the same with your current boss302 clutch set up. However this swap pertains to the 15-17 mt82, some little things changed on the 18-current mt82 I’m not sure if the 18-current mt82 will work with the 11-17 clutch setups.

I talked with the ford dealer today, and the OEM part number for the 15-17 MT82 is listed as FR3Z-7003-F
I can order it for under $1,200 for a brand new 15-17 MT82 here:

Using your method above with the three flanges you figure its a straight swap over without any mods?

Based on what the OP did with just the few changes should bolt right up.

Ok then that’s perfect. Just do the flange install and it should be uphill from there.

Sorry to revive this thread but anyone have issues with the reverse lockout? I’ve been told on s550 it’s pull up and 1st gen mt82 is push down. And on transmission it looks different aswell. How would we make it work.
