At the 2020 GT500 reveal, I think I heard someone mention that the rear tires were "Semi-Slicks", I assume that the tires and the 3.73's would contribute to the sub 11 second 1/4 mile runs?

What kind of 1/4 mile would a 662 run with "Semi-Slicks" and 3.73's out back? I'm sure those numbers would also be impressive vs. a 3.31 gear with oem Goodyears.

It won't be too much improved over factory since first gear is only 2.66:1 ratio, and again I hate to bring it up...………...the dreaded possible 2nd gear grind/lockout when you want to shift near redline.

I would love to see what this New Shelby would run the 1/4 mile with a six speed manual, Same gearing and a 285 Goodyear Crap tire out back as the 13” 14” came with.. Why are there no H.P. Numbers out yet and 9 more months of waiting! 6 years to build a car? And hood pins to hold the hood down at high speeds, The 13” 14” didn’t need hood pins at over 200 mph.

Why no weight quotes either..............It is all about the power to weight ratio.

I think the Dodge Boys did an unexpected "end-run" around the GT500 program with the 797HP Red-Eye Hellcat and the new GT500 5.2 had already been certified/tuned (50 state emissions) at a HP level closer to the non-Red-Eye Hellcat, was 707HP, and now 717HP.......

Another interesting thing from the past...........When the 2013 was being teased to the public, the HP quotes from Ford were "over 650HP", it was 662, the Shelby GT350............"over 500HP", it was 525 or 526.

Now the new GT500.........."over 700"........so from past teases, does "over 700" seem to be closer to 720/725? or 750 or 775? I think if it was 750+, they would have teased it that way....

Inquiring minds want to know.....

The 2013-14 hood was aluminum and may have been less flexible than the 2020 light weight composite hood.

The 2020 hood pins are pretty cool, I have seen a similar version of that type of push button pin, but I can't remember the brand?

Yea I know... Track Pack is for cooling extended periods on a road course...Drag cars do not have any of that ( which was my original argument)
Your original argument was "a 13/14 Track pack/ Performance pack car is all about HANDLING," (emphasis added) which is not completely accurate. (SVTPP improves handling. SVTTP improves cooling.) While improved cooling enables longer track and more consecutive drag sessions, it does nothing to improve handling.

Isn't it possible you simply misspoke about the Track Pack being related to handling...?

I agree wholeheartedly on the subject of this thread. The 13/14 is not outclassed by the 2020 - we have the carbon fiber drive shaft, we have the power and speed, the track pack, the recaros... The differentiator is really in the body style and the DCT box (yes, over simplifying it). On the subject of gears... there is a Chris Harris vid where he is driving a ferrari with DCT and he basically says that everything is all happening too fast that to have a gear stick would just get in the way.

The way I see it is that your car can be fast and you can be quick, but very few of us will really be at the peak of competition driving... so I want to get the most enjoyment out of my car. Yes the '13 GT500 a is crazy fast white knuckle ride of a car, but I sincerely appreciate rowing through the gears. Developing my driving skills on track such that when I get that downshift right it feels like I'm conducting an orchestra. Porsche are now recognizing this as they re-introduce manual gearboxes to their lines.

Oh... and imagine our cars on CF wheels, unloading all of that unsprung mass!

Yes Porsche did this starting with their 2018 911 GT3,..........their customer base was buying older MY cars with manual gearboxes !!

Y'all sound like the 11-12 guys when the 13-14s came out. :D

No need to have hard feelings and justify your ride, just respect it for what it is. Stock for stock, your cars have become marginalized. But, anyone that's got 650 rwhp is on an even playing field with the 2020 GT500, if they can shift like Ronnie Sox. We're not sure how portly this girl is going to be yet either. Unless you buy the race version of a production car, there are always improvements that can be made in a production car suspension, even if it's top shelf.

I'm not considering trading up. At least, not yet anyway, and I have a lowly 2012.

Wow!!! Ronnie Sox??................I have not heard that name in forever, I'll bet there are some (many) reading this thread who have no idea who that is until they go to Google and do a search.

Sox and Martin, they were a drag race team up there with the best racers in the Classic Muscle car era.

I agree with your post...........If the newer cars didn't move forward, that would be a BIG issue.............If the newest technology did not "best" the previous, it would remind me of the end of the 1973 Mustang model year and gong to 1974..........There was no moving forward there and in reality there was no forward movement for many years........

I just like the looks and raw nature of my 6spd 5.8L Whippled 2013. Plain and simple. I’d rather spend another $15k on mods to dial up to ~ 1000rwhp and put some more aggressive wheels/brakes on it then pay the $40k+ differential plus sales tax for a stock 2020. I’m not a fan of the S550 body-style in general so that’s kind of a major sticking point. Honestly if I had $45k free I’d buy a 2nd low mileage stock 2013-2014 now just for weekends/long term hold only. Far less depreciation to endure and I’d have a daily and a long term project car. But I’m also a guy who would buy a built show quality 1992/1993 coupe for $25k+ because I love that Mustangs we’re always a working mans cars that you could mod easily to whatever extent you choose. Never wanted the factory to do it all for me and make choices on my behalf like DCT vs manual, racing brake system, carbon fiber wheels, etc. Price got crazy and customization less impactful post purchase unless you’ve got $100K+ to blow. I’m 43yrs old and have owned 10 fox bodies, 2 S197 GTs, and my current 2013 GT500 which I bought after waiting 2yrs for the new S550 to be released back in 2015 and I hated it. Old man problems I guess.

No hard feelings for me! I have been waiting a long time for this car and called my dealer a couple of days ago to tell me they will not be getting one and it will be around nine more months to maybe have a chance to get one and expect to pay thousands over msrp. I played this game back in 2012 and will not play it again, I’m sure the new Shelby will be Great but I have already purchased 2 brand new cars and a conv. Maybe people like waiting years to get a New car but I do not.
And i would be keeping my 2013 just adding the 2020 ;)

I think the new GT500 looks ok.. It's a bit too ricer for me but, it still looks good. My main gripe with the new car would be, I can't believe they used the gt350 engine block. My 2013 has a proprietary engine only to the GT500. That's how the GT500 always was, it wasn't a parts borrower. I'm wondering how they lost that mindset along the way.

I know they're are differences between the new GT500 and GT350. But for me to Shell out 70-100k of my money on one, this car isn't special enough. To me it's a GT350 with a dct and blower.

Yeah, I agree.. I didn't think about the 5.4 truck engine from that era. I guess Im still bummed out about the release. I just kind of expected a car more like our 13-14s, more drag orientated.. Ford already has 3 track cars, now 4. Ford GT, GT350, GT350R, and now GT500.

Its been stated on this forum repeatedly that this was a track weapon.
