I need a little guidance here. Excuse me for sounding ignorant. You guys are right it might have a tune or not. When you guys say someone tumed it for you or does it mean you bought a handheld tuner? I am old school and always had old school cars. A 2003 mustang Gt is the most modern muscle car I have owned. Should I buy a tumer or have it tuned somewhere. I am going to do some research on the forums for tuners.

The handheld is just what stores and flashes the program/tune to the ecm.

Cant recall if you have an upper on the car.

Getting the tune checked after purchase is recommended. Your question above is one reason; not blowing the engine up is another.

id contact the previous owner first.

Aftrr that youd need a handheld but kinda helps to know how/if he had it tuned. Ive never dealt with a tuned car that didnt come with the tuning device so not sure on the procedure to take if it was tuned but the handheld isnt available.

Update: Well I installed an SVE 3 core radiator and 170 t-stat yesterday. I have used the car all day today and everything is fine. Cobra temp will not go over 198 F. No leaks, no smoke, no nothing. I feel relieved. However, I also think I realized I am not into wrenching no more lol. My neighbor owns a car dealer and I think I am going to trader it in for something newer. I am to old and have little time to be tinkering with cars. So guys just in case I do trade it in thanks for all the help.

I can maybe understand not enough time, but too old? Too old just means you're retired or close to it. Which means you have (or will have) lots of time. I'm 64 with arthritis and just getting started modding my car.

Hope you don't have to sell the car, but good luck with if if you do.

You are right not too old. But working 2 jobs as a teacher and coaching my kids football team. No time lol. When I retire and have lots of time I will be able to wrench. Car runs great now but I am sure problems will come again soon, old car. I will think about it. Thanks

I will add that these cars in stock form are really reliable. It has it's list of normal issues of course - but none of them are crazy hard to work on.

I get it if you're not really into the car. But if you like the car don't use lack of time as an excuse. I've raised two kids and had a Mustang since I was 16. Sure, there were times it sat not doing anything, but it didn't cost me anything except garage space. But it's always there when I'm ready for it. Another perk to it being just a toy is that if I don't finish whatever I'm working on over the weekend I still have my truck to get me to work on Monday.

Plus the looks you get when you pull up to the kids' events in a Cobra can be fun.
