I read the article with the EST and the Durango SRT and that pig weighs over 5700lbs. The explorer looks better and I would think performs better.

I just read they have a street track and a track pack model.

Maybe the wording is wrong on the street track.. it's street something though..

Thing is going to come close to 60k fully loaded I bet..

Lol, this will get crushed by the Durango SRT stock for stock. I think I've read the Durango SRT runs high 12's stock. @SolarYellow

Looks are subjective but the Durango SRT looks aggressive AF. Hell even the Durango RT's look more aggressive than this.

It looks good, but it would seem that the last couple ST models Ford has come out with are really not as sporting as many people would want. Im wondering how the 3.0 eco compares to the 3.5

yeaaa...i dont think my GCSRT is to worried about this. was really hoping this would make me come home and get a EST. maybe an ERS is in the works.

of course ill just wait for it to be worth 50% if msrp in a year unlike CGSRT which never seem to depreciate.

I think it'll perform better than we expect with 400hp and the 10-speed. I doubt it'll beat a Durango SRT (runs low 13's stock), but if you tuned both, I can see the Explorer edging it out. I miss my '02 Explorer I had and was hoping the Coyote would find it's way in, but I am a fan of the EcoBoost.

Edit: My biggest gripe is the black plastics. I wish they were body color like the 3rd/4th gens.

I just dont get how you are going to option the 3.5EB in a lower model but not option the high output on the ST and instead put in a weaker 3.0EB. It's so stupid because it is such a weak attempt by Ford in every way with the Explorer and one of their most important products.

You have two other established SUVs that fall in the same class as your new hot Explorer that you just changed to a RWD platform, hinting that when a performance model arises that you are seriously looking to contend. But no, Ford puts this half-assed, dinky 3.0 in it leaving it 75hp shy of the SRT Durango.

If you do have a hotter version in the works, why would you show a weak ST before it? You just let everyone down who had high hopes for at least a 450hp Explorer that would challenge at least the Durango.

I like the new Explorer as an SUV but this whole ST unveiling pisses me off more than anything else they have done.

Tuners believe this is more capable than the 3.5 Ecoboost. In order of potential: 3.0, 3.5,2.7

Well from my point of view, it should have the Coyote in it. If they want to make a serious performer, and if they actually come out with a Ford Performance model then they need to FPC in it or some form of the Coyote. Have they said whether the platform can fit the V8 yet? I just feel like it was a missed opportunity to do something more with it. It is going to be fast because Michigan state police have tested the Interceptor and said it was the fastest of all the cop cars. It did 0-60 in 5.7 and the next fastest was the Charger at 5.8 seconds. So given it is probably quite a bit heavier I would venture to say the ST will do it in 5.2-5.4 seconds.

I think the EST is quoted to do 0-60 in 6.7.

Sounds like you need the Lincoln Aviator. 450hp/600tq.

Edit: The 3.0 is a very strong engine and with a tune, it's laying down better numbers than a 3.5. I have no doubt the Explorer ST will hit 12's tune only. While that would be nice if it did it stock, that's at most a $600 mod that everyone should do.

Any info on what turbos they are using? Most of these EB turbos max out easily with a tune and are sharp torque curves that fall off quick.

I do not know. My guess is the turbos are the same as the Continental/MKZ 3.0, but it's the electric assist in the Aviator that gives it that extra power bump over the Explorer ST.

I love the Aviator and what they are doing with the Hybrid assist is cool. It's a luxury car that happens to have a ton of power and torque so Im cool with that, but Im not impressed with the ST if it is supposed to be their attempt a fast Explorer.
