Is "no manual available" a deal-breaker for you regarding whether you'll purchase a new 2020 GT500?

What transmission for you ???

I am happy to see the new GT500 with a DCT, I have a bad left knee and a left foot that needed surgery in July 2018. I have not been able to drive my car since July because it is too painful to push in the clutch pedal. I will be buying a performance auto equipped car to replace my 13. My first choice is a new 2020 GT500, if I can order one at MSRP. At this time that doesn't look like a viable option, so unless Chevy updates the Camaro with a new version with better visibility, I will be going with a Dodge.

I hope I won't have to buy a Dodge, I really like my 13 and really want to stay with Ford but I have to face the fact that I am getting older and not all my parts are operating as advertised and my warranty has run out, it's time to make some changes.

Looking forward to finding a Ford dealer that will sell me 2020 for MSRP.

C7 Z06? The choice for me is going to be between the new ‘500 and the Z.

Showed to the sandwich maker, and she thought it was a joke. I said (that's real! ) She had a knob like that on an old hair dryer.

I'm in the exact opposite camp. The DCT is a better manual than a stick manual. It also operates as an automatic, Best of both worlds. I have had so many, and still have stick sports cars, but I don't need to buy another new sports car for nostalgia. Once I drove a true DCT sports car, there was no going back for me, ever. They work so close to a true sequential and are so rewarding. To me, this car will be way more fun to drive with paddles than it ever would with a stick. I passed on the GT350, and would have with the GT500 if it did not have one.

Fine by me. Can't wait to buy one!

If I want to drive a stick, I'll pull out the GTS-R, or the 00R for a rip. Have been looking for an auto and almost pulled the trigger on a RedEye, but something told me to wait it out. Glad I did. Only thing left is verification of the performance #'s. If this thing is a true performer, I'm in!

Sport cars should have 3 pedals. Cars like a Hellcat or CTS-V I can understand. If you want an auto Mustang get a GT. They got it right on the GT350, then lost it on the GT500. Instead of chasing numbers, chase driving experience. 3 pedal cars can still break records against unbeatable flappy paddle cars(ACR,1LE,R’s).

I get you have to build to the lowest common denominator but man, I am disappointed, at least give us the option of a slower 3 pedal as a base stripper model or something. That’s just a former 04 Mach 1, 04 Cobra and 14 GT500 guys opinion though.

I'd prefer the DCT, what'll probably stop me from buying one is 20k+ ADMs on top of loaded 90k MSRPs meaning your average person won't be able to touch one of these for less than 110k+ for a year or more.

For me I was looking at buying one, but I am not interested in a DCT. I really want a manual transmission. For me I could care less about numbers. I want a high horsepower car with a manual transmission because it is FUN to drive. I think a lot of manufactures are loosing their way chasing numbers.

The DCT will be faster, but more fun, thats the question. When the magazine gets these cars and writes how fast they are, people read and it generates sales for the magazine, forums go wild, and free advertising for the manufacturer. All the exotics have done this, because had they not, they might be criticized with slower times and lost interest by the magazines/social media, this generates less popularity and the perception among the masses that a car is inferior. So by peer pressure all manufacturers start doing the same thing.

I know around where I live, the corvette Z06 is getting discounts and dealers are marking them down, but its those autos they have in stock. The manuals are all sold.

Give the purchaser the choice. If the ZR1 has a manual that can support its LT5, then Ford can put one in this car. I will not be buying one with a DCT.

I have been a member here and on other GT500 forums since Jun 2012 and I can't count the number of threads concerning bad clutches, clutch replacement, shifter problems and replacements and transmission problems.
I can't imagine why anyone would want an automatic transmission, let alone a DCT. :sarcasm

I could give 2 shits how fast I can go in a straight line or how fast I can go around a track, I’d rather have the experience and thrill of shifting and ****ing up a corner. It like all these kids today if they don’t have a computer to tell them how to do something they are clueless. Unless a MT is added I’m out.

I really don't think this will be much of a discussion a year after the car is out.

Manual transmissions can be fun or boring.
DCTs can be fun or boring.

A car is not a component; it is a car. I have driven lots of super boring manual transmission cars, and lots of super fun DCT cars. If all you do is kinda cruise around, sure, a manual is more fun than a DCT because it finally gives you something to do. Basically everywhere else, don't decide til you try it.

A GT350R with a DCT....now that would be where it's at.

for every lost customer not buying GT500 because it doesn't have a manual transmission I bet Ford gain 10 new customers because car is offered with an auto [ DCT] . I know so many people that were interested in buying GT350 but wanted auto transmission instead of manual

For anybody who bought a car with a manual transmission for their own right reasons, and those reasons did not include drag racing, none of that matters. Not even a little bit.

Finding out what you want in a car, sure.

But let's not try to say there's nothing between your cars & coffee stereotype and a win-or-break-trying drag racer that can't be satisfied driving a conventional MT.

It's fine with me that you like your DCT. However, I think you're trying a bit too hard here, which makes me wonder who you're trying to convince.

Just so you know where I'm coming from . . . every car I've bought since 1970 has been equipped from the factory with a regular 3-pedal "stick shift" transmission. Meaning all of the "family sedans", some of which have seen autocross use.

Norm

I don't think you ever owned a high HP car with manual transmission. There is a huge difference between heaving a manual trans car with 300hp and one with 700hp + . My last 2 cars were both 6 speed manual , 700hp and 1000hp cars

I have always believed that a good muscle car should have 3 pedals and a stick. But I am also an engineer and a techie so I like the evolution. For Ford to go and do a DCT is a leap frog over the 10 spd auto. Great call. I hope to add one of these right next to his brother R with the stick. Best of both worlds. NA with a Stick or S/C with DCT. I can dig that.

I’m good with the DCT. I have a high power manual GT500 that’s not going anywhere, but I’d choose DCT over True manual in this car.
If you really want a drivers car with a manual, get a GT350/350R.
Ford only chooses one trans for their peak performance Mustang and I’m glad they choose the best trans for performance!
Last, if you’ve never driven a proper DCT then you can’t comprehend how engaging they can be.
I’ve only driven amazing DCTs on track (Porsche PDK and Ferrari 458/488 DCTs) but they made for a much better experience than a Viper ACR! I drove the ACR after the 458 and thought how much better it would be with the Ferraris DCT.
My only two concerns:
1) how is this particular Tremec DCT?
2) how is the street experience?
I already know I want the most performance from this car, and for that goal, DCT wins on the track or strip!
