I don't mind the power outages they bring. It becomes an at home camping trip. No TV, electrical noise, etc. I can play my acoustic guitar, fire up the grill, smoker, or propane camp stove. I have lanterns, and a propane heater that are all waiting.

Ice storms here are rare. It has been about 10 years since our last one. The power was out for about two weeks.

Holy crap dude, power was out for 2 weeks?! The worse I've ever experienced is loss of power for about 4 -5 days. And that was no fun. Lost all of the food in our freezer and two refrigerators. I could install a backup generator, but it would run about $10K to do it right. I can't justify that high an expense for something (long term power outage) that happens maybe once every 10 years.

GA and Winter weather are not friends. It took a day and a half of cleanup to get down my driveway once the trees and limbs stopped falling. A long driveway into a wooded area is gorgeous until 30 or more trees fall over and block things.

It was pretty awesome to listen to transformers blow for hours. Listening to the trees break can be a bit concerning.

...and then to wrap the ice storm up we had a small earthquake. Yes, you can find documented in the news. All in all it was interesting. On a normal day I wouldn't have known that a quake happened. The calm and quiet of a frozen Augusta, GA let the rumble be heard and felt.

Drove for 15 hours yesterday. It should have been a 12 hour trip, but I ran into this storm in VA, WV, OH and MI. OH had the worst road conditions. There's nothing in Detroit.

So, they were actually right for once. We got around 10 - 12". I shoveled the driveway yesterday afternoon, thinking things were slowing down. Woke up this morning, and had to do it all over again!

Ice storm caused my parents to lose power for 14 days a few years back. I was able to bring them a generator and everything was fine.

I'm shooting a new series of too-tech vids and one of the episodes is on generators. Should be some good info for you Bob.

Forecasts were calling for about 4" for us, but we ended up with around 6" when it was all done.

Sunny and cold here. No precipitation. Nothing in the forecast for this week.

Just get a small one. We only have a 6kw but it is enough to run the furnace, well pump, and keep the fridge running.

SE Missouri of course gets forecasted for the most and we end up with the least LOL. If the temp would've been a few degrees colder on Saturday we would've ended up with much more but it pretty much rained all day. Columbia, MO and some parts up that way ended up with about 20". I'm done getting excited about snow
