Does anybody else think the 5.0 'Coyote' doesn't sound very good?

I think it sounds great even with my stock exhaust, but then again I did take the baffles out of the side pipes.

Agree. Never liked the exhausts I've heard on coyote engine cars. Too high-pitched and raspy compared to new-edge cars. Plus lots of 2011+ owners like to put the loudest, shittiest sounding exhaust they can find on their cars and drive around like race car drivers. It's like a 4th gen F-body with SLP loudmouths...

Really depends on the setup. Most of the 5.0's I've heard sound like crap.

I changed my setup a couple of times before I was content with it (Lethal O/R H W/Borla S-Types) ATAK's are junk and make the car very raspy sounding. One of the main reasons 5.0's sound raspy is because a lot of people go with X-Pipes over H-Pipes.

I'm going to Kook's LT's with Kooks O/R H and the S-Types in the next couple of weeks. Shouldn't be too raspy.

Personally - I've never heard a good sounding viper, F-150 5.0. few Challengers/Chargers that sounded good, etc. All depends on the setup.

Had to add my 2 cents for what its worth. Can attest to feeling and honestly believing that a cars sound and how you control it under load is 110% of the reason true car enthusiastic like myself love them. Haven't had over 50+ mustangs over the years including shelby's and cobra's and the new coyote motors its sad to say Ford f'd us with the sound of the coyote. Yes its great on power but sucks balls regarding sound. Only way it sounds good is 4 grand and up, the firing order isn't what we all grew up loving and Im surprised Ford it this to everyone. I've changed my exhaust a few times already, currently running ARH full catted and cat less x pipe system and I do not like it. Remember the times you could put just about any exhaust on a mustang and love it. You can't with these coyotes, they just don't have the tone we are after down low. Only reason I don't want to do a coyote swap in my foxbody is because of the sound.
Here is what we are dealing with here is the flat head v8 sound/coyote here is what we want

Way to go Brad! You spend an hour putting together a “strongly worded” post only to revive a thread whose last post was 3.5 years ago.

I feel bad for your Congressman.

Get a clue!

I love my coyote. Active exhaust in track mode sounds awesome
You make a good point, Ford did a great job with the new GT and their active exhaust. Also the stock tri y headers design I still believe helps the exhaust note. Even though the exhaust sounds weaker with out headers the stock coyote headers create a better tone.

Man, Ive been to several meets and have heard alot of Coyote motors and their exhaust setup. I have yet to hear one that I think sounds very good. The motor is great but most do not sound very clean. I think some 4.6 4v (cammed) motors sound amazing, and I am a fan of nearly every pushrod exhaust note, but the 5.0 DOHC just doesn't sound very good to me. Anybody else feel this way? It just sounds too run-of-the-mill and generic, not enough character or soul in the sound.
No, pretty much it's you. We use the Coyote exhaust note reaction for profiling purposes. Your reaction says you're likely to vote Democrat. There are other interpretations of the data, that is the kindest one.

Ok. That's the bad news. The good news is that you _can_ change. You _can_ learn and grow and be better. It won't be easy, it will take many, many years. But just keep focusing on that happy day!

I've heard great sounding Coyotes and horrible sounding Coyotes. But, I can say that about any car/motor. It all comes down to the owner's choice in exhaust.

Honestly I’m also concerned about how my Coyote swapped ‘93 Cobra will sound. It had a baby cam modded 302 with a Prochamber to 2-chamber Flowmaster exhaust and I could listen to that car for days.
Part of the S197/S550 cars is muffler placement, but I’m going Prochamber to Borla XS mufflers for the Coyote Cobra. Also going to make an H-style connection under the IRS to duplicate the exhaust that was on my ‘04 Cobra.
Only time will tell.
Gotta love the modern performance, but can’t help but miss the old school rumble.

Your not alone brother, by the way just completed my IRS swap in my foxbody, next is the motor. While I do have the coyote in my 15 gt to learn from, i just don't fall in love with the sound. Thinking 408 NA honestly might be the best of both worlds for me. And I totally agree with a lot of guys hear, the best sounding mustang / cobra i've ever owned was the 99 / 04 cobra.

I agree with J - Prochamber with 2 chamber Flowmasters is about perfect on a Fox. That being said...you have to expect a 4v motor that revs to 7500 rpm to sound more refined. Remember, our beloved foxes ran out of breath way before 6k so of course they would sound different. I love the sound of both my cars...the ‘14 with S-type AB’s and my ‘66 with LT, 2-chamber Flowmasters, and dumps. Completely different setups in every way, but IMO both perfect for each car’s purpose.

I LOVE the sound of my wife's F150 5.0 with the Borla ATAK system. Quite honestly, I really like the sound of the 5.0s.

Im pretty sure its partly due to the firing order and even more due to the mufflers being at the end of the system. All other cars sound so much better with the mufflers ahead of the rear axle/tailpipes.

Prochamber/2 chamber flows on a pushrod 5.0 sounds incredible.

My old '01 GT with a Dr. Gas X pipe and 2 chamber flows sounded AWESOME, even though it was quite slow..lol

There are a few mid muffler systems on the 15-18 out, though they sounds a little better I do agree its also the firing order as well as the variable timing. No more over lapping sound which actually sounds good lol.

It's the exhaust.

Make it out to a track day and listen to the difference between the C7 corvettes and the 6th gen camaros. I had no idea until my buddy pointed it out, the camaro sounds significantly better. It's a lot less 'tractory'.
