Answer: Whichever car brings you a sense of contentment.

There is always a faster car
There is always a cleaner car
There is always a more expensive car

But the one that makes you happy is the one that says "I made it."

Not owing anyone a cent for anything you have and being able to retire early.

"Where debt is dumb, cash is king and the paid off home mortgage has taken the place of the BMW as the status symbol of choice."

We probably shouldn't have bought my car when we did, but we paid it off quickly. Still, I didn't feel as though my car defined me "making it". Maybe partially that was because my wife made twice as much as me then? I tend to agree with several here that car purchases are rarely the true barometer on somebody's financial situation.

If all go as planned, we will have our house paid off by age 44. I think that's making it. Retiring at 58-60 will be icing on the cake.

If everyone walked around with their net worth on their forehead, now we're getting the true picture of "if they made it".

I'm 65, everything is paid off, owe nothing. Go to work because my job is a piece of cake with no interfearence from anyone, my wife is 8 years younger and loves what she does so she won't retire. We work at the same place and carpool so it costs me nothing to go to work. My 22 year old daughter has been going through some medical issues for the past 5 years so her recovered health is one goal.

I have five vehicles two are 10.99 or better capable street cars with AC, cruise and can be driven across the country on pump gas. Kept the Mustang, sold the Turbo Regal because I want to build a 64-65 12.0 Riveira.

But my greatest accomplishment is being a chaplain in the State of Florida Juvenile Detention System for the last 12 years counseling youth and helping some get their lives on track.

To me it’s a Gen V Viper. It doesn’t say “I’ve arrived”, in the sense the OP’s thread asked, but it’ll probably be the best head turner for me.

Agreed.
Seems the more we get, the deeper we get.
My brother always told me “ the more things you own, the more your things own you”.
I see it more each day that passes.

This is a quote from the movie fight club. As Stated multiple times, fancy car does not equal financial success. Plenty of ballers who’d rather drive a normal car and plenty of wannabes way over extended to drive a $100k+ car.

As I’ve gotten older and my kids are busy with activities, I’ve had less time for cars and am less likely to spend money on something like an exotic. There are a ton of other reasons why people may choose not to buy a crazy car—public perception in a small town or for a business owner, not wanting to your kids to get ridiculed for having successful parents, etc

911 Turbo, especially an air cooled model, or restored classic car.

Pick your poison.

As you typed this post, I was at an auction in Maryland. I watched a 200k 89 Porsche 911 Speedster with 26 k miles sale for 85k. Sold in bankruptcy auction due to divorce. Nothing says failure more then watching your stuff sale for half price.

If you can throw down cash on a MB S series AMG, you made it!

(Side note: E would like to own one but technically has not "made it", and has nowhere to drive it anyway)

Sounds like a customer of mine acquiring an 88 Slantnose for around 50K and it’s worth close to 150, due to a divorce sale. Moral of the story: don’t get divorced!

I love being retired. Leasing cars these days. Have not found "the one", yet.

Not the car that defines me fiscally but the one that defines my goals when I drive.

I like power and comfort. Ease of handling. I am now appreciating technology more as the roads get more crowded my cars have saved my ass a few times.

My wife likes big, lol. So next vehicle may be an SUV.

I personally my get a Bronco or Ranger to get back to my outdoor roots while fishing and camping more.

The fact I can be around to take my kids to school and be at events is more in the line of We Made It.

Looking for a vacation home in the hills of NC or TN. Get away from these brutal Summers and have a place to go for the GMW.

OK Bozos, stop clowning around.

The one that gets you to your destination...

The answer is so much more than what you drive. I see people in the ghetto neighborhoods with nice new cars and people in nice neighborhoods with average rides.

Looking at restored rides as a gauge is poor also. I can’t tell you how many classic Camaros I’ve seen that look good until you check out the shit show LS swap leaking fluids with hacked wiring.

I have a nice truck, two projects, a work van, and animal hauler. I don’t struggle to pay bills, I can take my wife and daughter on nice vacations, and buy what I want within reason. I am comfortable yet always trying to improve my financial situation.
