There are some small white smudges from an unknown source on my dash board. I do not want to make a minor problem worse, but would like to try to remove them if possible.

Does anyone know of a good cleaner or remover that will not damage the dye on the dash? Thanks!

Turtle Wax makes something called Dash and Glass. I use it in all of our vehicles. Might be worth a shot.

When all else fails, I use Goof Off Heavy Duty Cleaner. Be careful though, it’s strong stuff! It will remove anything from anything. Use very little.

I'd definitely avoid Goof Off at all cost. It does not evaporate well, and can leave a residue. Would make the interior smell like paint thinner as well.

I'd definitely go with simply green. That stuff works great. You can always dilute it as well, just to be safe.

The cleaner I was talking about is not the regular Goof Off you are thinking of. Here is a link:

Test a cleaner on an area not easily visible, just in case. That said, I agree that Simple Green would be a first choice. I use it all the time. Once I had some gunk on the exterior door of my show car. I was entering a regional show that morning (parked at a hotel) and could not remove it with anything in my trunk supplies bag. Went to Home Depot a block away, bought a bottle of Simple Green and the gunk came right off without any harm to my paint. You can get Simple Green full strength or mixed.

Yes to all of this! I always start with Simple Green. When that doesn’t quite hack it, I bring out the big gun with the Goof Off Heavy Duty Remover. Just make sure to test it like Bob said.

I'd start with the least aggressive..distilled water and a microfiber. If that doesn't work, maybe a diluted solution of simple green. Once it comes clean, follow up with a vinyl cleaner and protectant like 303.

You sure it's not mold? Vinegar works well on interior surfaces, smell dissipates after a day.

It is definitely not mold. If I had to guess, it is from shoes or maybe fingernail polish. Thanks for the ideas everyone!

“Unknown source” huh...

Exactly! Hit it with a black light first.... that might narrow down your choice of solvent. Biohazard is best remedied with a little Mr. Clean.
