Ok so the mustang I bought has 120k miles. I have no idea of past records but i do know its bone stock. I also know it's a sports car but how do I keep from having problems or having to rebuild the engine? I know to do the scheduled maintenance but are they prone to have big problems at high miles? Again I know nothing about mustang's or their problems they can have so just needing advice. Thanks in advance!

I can't remember who had it. But someone started a channel with theirs. Called it Mile High coyote. I belive he bought it with about same miles as you, he has been modding & racing it.

High mileage today is so different then yesterday but we are stuck on the same thinking as far as engines go. Back in the day cars had 3.55-4.10's with no overdrive so they were spinning way higher then an overdriven 3.15 late model Mustang.

Im guessing its a manual.

Not knowing any history of the car. I would look at doing a tune up.
Cabin air filter
Engine air filter
Spark plugs
Oil change and filter
Transmission fluid change
Flush out the brake fluid
Change the rear diff fluid. Make sure to add motorcraft friction modifier for the LSD.

Inspect all bushings in front and rear suspension

I have 153k miles on my car right now, bought it with 65k in January 2015 as a CPO vehicle (never needed to use the warranty). Did lots of mods and I've been driving with a tune since 65k miles. I drive the car aggressively but I don't beat the piss out of it on a daily basis. Still drives like new. I should probably replace the spark plugs again though, pretty sure I'm coming up on it. All I've done is oil changes, brakes ONCE, master cylinder fluid change, transmission fluid change, coolant change (because I got hit and decided to just buy a new radiator), air filter changes, basic stuff. Still on the original clutch with no slipping. No noises anywhere except for a slight annoying rattle somewhere in my headliner where it meets the map lights which I need to address. No electronic issues, and both of my window motors work fine which is not something I'm used to in high mileage cars. I did replace the battery once too because the original one went back a couple years ago.

HOWEVER:

All of my suspension is aftermarket. If I stayed stock I'm sure all the bushings and shocks/struts would be worn by now, or at least getting there. The height adjustment on my seat also hasn't worked since like 75k miles, and I never bothered to fix it because my seat is as low as it will go already.

Everybody who sees my car in person thinks it has 30-40k miles at most

I buy all my stuff high mileage because I'm cheap. I wouldn't scare away from a coyote with that many miles. Then again I can fix most anything that could go wrong too.

I'm usually like that, but I did make a mistake once by buying a cheap high mileage mint condition 540i 6 speed back in the day. I bought it with like 140k, went through everything and the car was perfect. Then suddenly at 180k miles the timing chain guide rails went. $900 in parts at over 20 book hours of labor on a car that was worth maybe $5000 in perfect running condition. No thanks. Sold it as-is to some guy who towed it away for a project car...for $4500

I don't like mileage so much I hardly drive my car. Drives my wife crazy!
My Mustang has been sitting in my bldg. for over a month now.
I do need to drive it, not sure when/where in life I decided I don't want to drive vehicles to save mileage.
OP, from what I've seen/heard, that amount of miles (120K) should be fine.
