My dad bought another gas job 2500 pickup a few months back. He’s put a few thousand on it his guys have driven it on occasion as well. Last week it started running rough then just died sitting in traffic. The dealership sent a tow truck to pick it up and they called him a few days later saying number 3 piston was cracked and they’re rebuilding the motor. So much for these amazing LS engines.

Why wouldn’t GM just drop in another engine. I find it hard to believe they’re rebuilding it.

"Rebuilding" can mean all sorts of things. What is GM's definition?

You do the math using the typical rule of thumb and this should be a mid 7, possibly lower car. Besides it being a SBE 5.3, it also weighed about 2950 iirc. The power plants are stupid fast in the right hands.

cuz facebook

No one ever learned anything USEFUL from Facebook. Period.

My life got infinitely better when I removed myself from that twat-infested website.
Exactly. I haven't been on Facebook for weeks, frankly I'm a happier person. I may close it for good.

Lmao. I've had Facebook like 10 yrs. Never even put a profile pic up and zero friends. While back I decided to use it to keep up with family so I added my brothers and nephews/nieces.

Still no profile pic and I've gone on there just a few times.

Niece texted me that its creepy to have no profile pic lmao

He should trade it in for another truck. Wife had a 96 Maxima, 14,000 miles the timing chain broke and destroyed the engine. Dealer decided to rebuild, I wanted a new engine. 6-weeks into waiting I went to see the progress on the rebuild. Service Manager took me back and told me it was going to be 'better than new'. I said, 'Great...I want to trade it in right now'. Car was on a lift, engine was on a build stand and about 45-minutes I drove my wife's new Maxima off the lot.

That sounds like a great way to take a hit on trade value. Motors get rebuilt all the time, it’s not really a new concept. I understand the want for a new motor but if the block is good and the motor can be rebuilt that’s the way the warranty will likely pay. It’s easier to buy an extended power train warranty for peace of mind if that’s the concern.

Now if no loss in vehicle value happens then by all means I’d agree may as well just get another, but that’s generally very unlikely to happen.

The gen 2 donor heads I got for my '13 1000+whp build has some scoring on some of the cam journals.

Polish them up and keep building. Replacing a head when it can simply be reliably repaired isn't cost effective for me. Heck, using a timesert in one of the main cap threads and it will be even stronger than the original threads.

Nothing wrong with rebuilding.

Guy at work had to take his in for a recall a couple of years ago something to do with the pistons. They had to replace the pistons in his. Figured they would replace the motor but he was told they just changed out the pistons.
