Should I go with a ported boss or just save for a cobra jet

I have 2012 GT Brembo pack with only a C&L street intake/tune and SLP Axlebacks, it's my daily driver but I wanted to give the car a bit more kick to keep up with some of the newer cars. I've heard from one of my buddies that running a ported boss with a bigger TB will get me similar results to a cobra jet, what are your guys thoughts?

HP per dollar I think the 2018 manifold is the way to go. Just my opinion.

What are your goals? If you're going the NA route CJ all the way. If you plan on boost later go with boss intake. The stock TB is all you need for the boss / 18IM and the FR 90MM isn't worth the cost and doesn't have any significant gains over a stock TB. If anything I would port the factory TB.

Depends on your goals and budget, if you want the badest NA monster then ported CJ is the way to go, if your on a budget but want to make some high RPM HP then 18 or Boss and forget the TB.

I'm just staying N/A for now, and my goal is just to be around at least 420+rwhp without adding long tubes(stupid California). I've also read somewhere online that an accufab tb on a boss manifold really wakes it up, but maybe I'll just stick with a ported boss or 18. I would love to buy a CJ but I would have to save a little more lol

You could most likely find a used CJ setup for a few hundred more that you would pay for a new ported Boss and intake.

Since you live in California, why don't you take a little trip to AED and chat with Shaun and get his professional opinion. Since you have a hp goal set, he can tell you how realistic it is with the mods you are thinking will get you there.

Recommend you check out VMP video comparing manifolds. The point I took away was that both the boss and CJ manifolds will give you a nice power increase at 6K-7500 RPM with the CJ being the star. You will also LOSE hp & tq at low-mid RPM from stock. Being a CA DD, I would stay with stock manifold and go shorty headers instead. Not near the gain as LTs, but all your gains will be usable power. For track or drag, boss or CJ are great. Happy Wrenching!

Thanks for the info guys, I ended up going with the ported boss and an accufab 84.5mm tb, I found the setup pretty cheap so I decided to jump on it. I figured if it doesn't impress me I can just sell it for the same price I bought it and get a CJ or 18 setup.

Kinda late as you already made a purchase. I went with a Bret Barber ported Boss and a ported throttle body on my 2012 Boss. Cost was $350 for the porting. I don't really feel any low end loss and a decent increase from 4000 rpm to 7500 rpm....

I don't like that comparison as it was made to market the 18IM and it was the only was that was ported. They shut the CJ down at 7.3K RPM when that's really when it was starting to take off. I didn't notice any low end loss on my CJ and others have seen a slight increase in TQ. All in the tune.

I am leaning towards the ported 18 IM for cost and to keep CA smog compliant. I figure they won't even know I swapped the manifold if I go with an 18. I fought smog enough with my Foxbody. I don't want to deal with that battle again with the 14. I am just afraid of torque loss at 4k rpm. I want it to have a good punchoff at 4k rpm and I don't want to have to launch it much over 4krpm. I hate sitting there on the line over 4k waiting for the light. Will a ported 18 intake give me 2mph and 2 tenths in the 1/4? If so, then I'll go for it! Price has gone up, unfortunately. The ported version seems to not lose as much torque. I don't know how high in rpm I can go and still get the stock clutch to work. I shift right around 6900 rpm now and cross the line at 6600rpm. Since I am only at 6600rpm when I cross, I am not sure how much the intake will help in 4th.

how does it feel so far in terms of low and mid range changes? what are you doing for a tune? what gears?

I haven't got around to installing it yet, I'm trying to see if I can find a used airraid intake, I have a c&l racer but I would need to put a 4 to 3.5 in coupler to make it work, I'm not sure if the airaid would be worth the upgrade, and as for the tune I'm planning to go with aed down the road and I have 3.55 gears

E85, I wish!! Crappy Cali 91 octane for me. Good for 21 degrees of advance. I add some 100 octane at the track and then the tune goes -6KR.
