I'm curious to hear the SVTP solution to the homeless problem. What should we tax paying citizens do?

The homeless issue is complex. There are those that we all know are addicts in some form or another. This leads to the person disowning those that love them, or his family abandoning the person. That is tragic, and these people need a lot of support in order to return to society and serve am active roll.

There are others that are thrust into homeless situations. They find themselves without any options. These people need generosity and encouragement. They do not want to live on the streets.

I can't tell you how many times I have been in Nashville and met homeless buskers just trying to earn a dollar with music. In any other town these people could be stars, but Nashville is tough, and to truly "make it" you have to be connected or unique. I have seen people bathing in the fountains. @Deceptive has likely seen it too. A lot of the people I have talked to have family, but due to finances they struggle to get back home.

Let's face reality; after a week of no shower, a possinle limited change of clothes, dumpster diving for food, and an unkempt look, landing a job is close to impossible? How does one get a job without an address?

Musicians have my heart. My production company isn't like most. I don't start out talking about money. I begin with talent. I have recorded many artists for free just to help them move to the next level. If a song I help write, produce, and engineer makes it then there is money to be made. Otherwise the client is on my time. I have seen one too many people sell their soul trying to share their art, only to be taken advantage of, drained dry, and dumped on the curb.

I am able to help artists in need by writing and selling tracks and beat loops, mixing local commercials, producing a few established bands, and so on. I give from the extra time I have.

I know this is a little off topic, but this is a college kid that needed a break. @HudsonFalcon and your foamers can enjoy "Chasing Trains"

I really wish I didn't teach you guys what a "foamer" was lol.

On topic.

The homeless need help. By help I don't mean "safe spaces" to shoot up and supervised injections but actual help.

They need rehab, mental health counseling, jobs, etc. Give them the tough love they need and a chance to contribute to society. If they can't or choose not to then put them in a cage when they inevitably break the law.

Stop giving them handouts. They make more with handouts than many base salary jobs. I think HI gets $60k a year in welfare. Well no wonder they don’t want to work.

Second cost of living is so damn high as we pay these outrageous prices because we can get easy money from loans. If you don’t have 80% or better loan to value you lose your property. Watch prices come back to fall like a brick.

They’re too slow for target practice..... On a serious note, this is a very tough problem to crack.

Come to Denver. It's really hard to be sympathetic to healthy adult men in their 20s and 30s who hang out and smoke.weed all day and have the balls to ask for money while the store behind then has a sign "Help Wanted, starting $15/hr."

Then there are the prentend homeless who fake it and just ask for money. These are the genuises who beg for money with an iPhone in their hand and a nearby backpack of food and spare battery packs to rechardr said phone.

They pretty much ruin the will of the community to provide enough mental health Care and drug abuse treatment and job placement / retraining programs that would benefit the rest.

Well once you drop your level of care to what they have, you can make more money than $15 an hour by begging, and then it's 100% fun money. No water bill, no rent, no cell phone bill, just drugs, fast food, and booze.

The unfortunate reality of the situation is homelessness will never be solved. There will always be people with mental health issues with no one to take care of them, or people who routinely make poor choices. Some can be helped, but not all. You absolutely cannot save someone from themself.

Edit: 3 would be the the few that fall on hard times and just need help. Churches, and others that gets tax free business should have to take these people in and help them get back on their feet, with no more than 6 months being in this care.

You cannot just round them up and put them into institutions.
You can't force them to get treatment or force them to work.
They have the same rights as you and I, right?

So if they do NOT want your help, what can you do?

If "helping" doesn't help, then it wasn't help.

Some problems cannot be solved reasonably. If I had an endless supply of money (someone else's money, of course), and created a town filled with miniature houses in a cube-farm and gave one to every homeless individual, stocked with food and water, what then? They now have basic needs covered, and the vast majority will choose to not contribute back to society. In fact, they'll probably gravitate towards degenerate behavior, violence, and overpopulate. Don't believe me? Isn't that how Section 8 works?

Sorry, I will never be convinced that any form of handout works. We already have programs that are there to support those who are legitimately in a temporary rough patch, and they get abused to a disgusting level.

This isn't being heartless, it's realizing that feeding stray cats leads to more stray cats. Wasted efforts. What's the root cause? Address the root cause, not the symptom.

There are massive resources for the homeless already. So we are already doing the needful. If you chose to do more, I fully support your Christian duty.

What we need to do, is have a fifty state initiative to outlaw panhandling and make it punishable by lengthy prison terms. I’m sick of the human parasites working the street corners. It should also be a jailable offense to give them money. I’m also sick of the stupid people that perpetuate the problem by giving them money.

This is a sad truth Todd.

If churches did their job, the government wouldn't be involved in half of what they are.

This is coming from an ordained pastor.
