I'm looking at converters and it appears that Circle D, TCI and Yank all make converters for the 6r80. Why does it seam everyone chooses Circle D?? And does anyone have a Yank or a TCI? They appear to be less expensive.

Thanks I've searched and all I find is info on Circle D. I can't find any feedback on TCI or Yank. Not that I'm opposed to getting a Circle D, I am just kinda curious.

For a full weight street car that's going to be FI either a Procharger or a TVS what's a good size?? 3c in the middle size or the small 265mm?

i belive circle D is the only one with a triple clutches, not 100% on that, but thats what i thought

TCI advertises triple clutches and a bolt together design which generally is better for rebuilding and stuff but if it's not as good as a Cricle D then it doesn't matter.

I've heard good things from the company "Freak Show Performance" Don't personally have their product yet but you can look them up on EBAY and on Facebook

I did this same thing back and forth for months before i got mine and here is what i found. The stock converter according to Shaun at AED is a dual disc or double disc design so for strength and reliability go with a Circle D triple disc. The Circle D is proven and does work. Now you can get Yank or TCI to make you a triple disc converter but it hasn't been tested on any car that i know of. When i talked to Chris at Circle D we talked for a long time and He said that you can run a single disc like Yank and PTC converter but it will not last with nitrous on it or FI. He said they may start back offering the single disc converters for 700.00 but they will be for NA applications only. Right now im on my second Circle D converter my first was a 4c that i used with my nitrous setup I sold it to another guy for his nitrous coyote and it is still going strong. My current one is a 2c that Im going to use for a blower. Spend the money the right way the first time even if you have to buy a used one get a Circle D you will love it.

Thanks I'm going to go with a Circle D that's going to me by next mod, with an idea of a Procharger then next, or a TVS. It looks like Circle D's quality and reputation is the reason everyone chooses them and that's good enough for me.

A converter will not be needed for a Whipple car as well since it's a twinscrew and will make instant torque right off idle.

Definitely wait until after you know what type of forced induction or nitrous you'll be going with before choosing the converter. I chose a 245mm 5C thinking I'd stay NA, lol. Then was pretty much committed in going with a centrifugal If I didn't want to swap converters again. If I would've waited until after I was supercharged I would've went with something a little tighter, and my car would've been quicker, and easier to launch for sure.

For the comments above about pd blowers not needing them, I'd say you'd still benefit some (Not nearly as much as a Centrifugal set-up) with an aftermarket converter. Just contact your converter company with your goals and set-up you want to run.

I've got a Circle D 4c with a Vortech blower in my Mach. Yank is good with the GM crowd. I think TCI is garbage. You can't go wrong with Circle D. Freaks how Performance also makes good converters. He seems to recommend lower stalls than Circle D.
