Did you learn anything interesting?

I've thought about doing it, just to see if where I think my family is from is true. I've also thought about getting a kit for my parents. But I'm not sure what I, or they, would potentially learn is worth the price. Just wondering if anyone has any really remarkable stories to share, or if it's just "meh".

It doesn’t matter what other people think it matters if you are interested enough to find out. Be prepared however to find out that your dad isn’t your father or that you are adopted or that your great grandfather was a black man. All have happened lol. It’s interesting but not earth shattering. And unless you are willing to share your results it doesn’t accomplish much.

If you are interested in genealogy it’s a whole different matter and it can be n invaluable tool in finding relatives you didn’t know about and information you didn’t know. Lots of potential WOWZWERS could ensue

My sister is into it and she shares all the info with the family. I think our big claim to fame was one of our relatives was the senior officer that surrendered ATLANTA to the union army during the war of Yankee aggression. The union army then set ATLANTA a blaze. Sorry ATL

A young fellow in Michigan did it a dna search and his grandfather got convicted and went to jail for murder off of that sample. The grandfather eventually confessed.

I did mine a few years ago. Was able to trace my dads lineage to a guy who served under king richard the III. I have been wanting to start it again so i can be on the registery for the hatfields and mccoys. My grandfather on my dads side was somehow related to someone who was a cousin to Randall McCoy. Thats what we were told growing up anyway. Id like to have proof tho.

The key to genealogy research is to get a family member interested so you don't have to be. A retired cousin of mine did this a few years ago.
And yes, that paperweight is a Glock.

And that's just my mom's side. My dad's side goes back to Robert the Bruce, but most of us are frogs, and got kicked out of France 300 years ago.

Somewhat related....

I've been researching my family's history and found some of it really interesting.

My family is Stewart. I thought, "cool, scottish....Willem the Bruce....etc."

While that is true, I found that the family originally came from northern France (as did most scots!...) and my family, in particular, was quite ruthless in seeking political power.

Explained a lot. I never understood why Louisiana's state flag had my family seal as their state seal, until I discovered the French connection.

After Hood pulled out of Atlanta ahead of Sherman, he burned 81 munitions rail cars to prevent them from falling into Union hands, and it was ultimately the mayor of Atlanta who formally surrendered Atlanta.
The Surrender of Atlanta
