As ive stated, I have a setup like that. I dont like it because of the size, and propane in the shops sucks frankly.
Propane does suck, but....

How much faster can you turn around work with a lift? I dress in layers and lay mats on the concrete in cold weather. As I get hot, I strip layers.

Turn around work?

I dont use my shop to make money. And I only work on my toys so speed is rarely a concern.

In that case, I'd have to lean toward HVAC.

Maybe a nice slimline unit with a heat pump feature?

Anything that cools would be useless. I count on one hand the days i see above 90 a year.
My house doesnt even have ac.

That said, i queried my insurance again. Because my shop is detached I can apparently heat it however I want. Theyve changed policy since I bought the house. If I use wood, I have to pay a surcharge. But I already pay it because I have this in my house...

So with as cheap as pellet stoves areaybe I'll do both.

Heck, if you can do that, go for it. Heat and a lift will make life so much better

I'm gonna go against the grain here and say heat first. My shop is heated and I'd rather be comfortable and on my back then freezing under a lift. Especially considering you would use it 9 months a year.

If you do choose heat I highly recommend a pellet stove. We use our Harman as our primary heat source and it keeps our 2,000 sq ft house toasty.

I vote lift (you should add a poll!). Having the ability lift the car with the touch of a button is stupid nice. I'm assuming the lift would mostly be used for routine maintenance--which is generally pretty quick work. I could deal with the cold for those quick jobs.

Now, if the shop is somewhere you hang out on a regular basis, then heat is the obvious choice. You could go with heat and something simple like a quick-jack.

Heat first, if it’s not heated you won’t want to go there to use the lift. Propane turbo heater with a 100lb tank is cheap to start but once you start using it and it runs out on Saturday night your done till Monday. Lifts are cheap and you can have that mad money again soon.
