Unsure on the actual cause, but it was taking in a quart of oil about every 350 miles

There have been two separate failures: the first is "high oil consumption" and the second is "loss of oil pressure".

Nobody knows what the actual causes for the two are.

The first one has no obvious cause, and while oil pump gears have been blamed repeatedly for the second failure, there's no reason to believe that's what's actually failing.

Probably a dumb question, but here it is anyway... Are most of the engine failures on a regular 350 vs the R model? I know the engine is the same, but I rarely heard of an R's needing an engine replaced. My R started eating about .25L per 200-300miles. I have since traded the car in, but i'm just curious, in general.

I wouldn’t be surprised if more Rs are in bubbles vs the regular cars

I had one come apart (so to speak) on me on the dyno that was some type of oiling failure. Killed a couple rod bearings and was fixed under warranty. Wasn't given any further explanation but did see one of the bearings that was killed. This car had already had one engine so it is now on it's third.

I believe 1qt every thousand is considered normal for these cars so why trade it in?

It really is surprising Ford gave the green light for a flat plane engine.

Why it's a great motor, obviously with some exceptions. But those that have no issues like myself absolutely love the car

you're lucky. Not everyone is in the same boat, as Curt said above, guy had 3 engines in the same car : Stock unit + 2 replacements.

That's ABSURD for what these cars cost....

It pushed the boundaries of many mass produced engine criteria's. It barely squeaked into production according to Ford itself.

I get that, I'm just glad Ford tried something different. They could've easily added a few bolt ons to a 5.0 and called it a 350

If Ford had come out with a 350-400 CI Modular motor with increased bore spacing, people would have kissed their feet.

They could have gotten there with a 5.2 CPC if they wanted (GT350 numbers). They however decided to do something different. Having said that, just because you can, doesn't mean that you should.

As with any new engine and build the 1st couple years are always the buyers as beta testers. Nothing new this has been going on for years.
