shiiiiit right? Buddies just had the capital to shell out to their 'bankers' who needed the cash. Turn 500k into a couple mil easy.

Thank god...

It made computer parts prices sky rocket
This.

Couldn't find a video card for sale that wasn't stupidly marked up because of all the get rich quick schemers out there who thought they would be overnight millionaires by crypto-mining.

Hopefully, the prices on used GTX 1080 Ti GPUs by EVGA and NVidia (founder's edition) will plummet and gamers can get the leftovers dirt cheap. (the 2080 isn't worth the extra money....before some "leet" phanboi chimes in..)

I was an early adopter as one my indexing services required bitcoin as a payment option when it was first released. Had I kept what I had in there I'd be worth millions if I cashed out at the high. When the indexing service went under I didn't top off my wallet. Bitcoin's rise was a complete fluke so I don't feel bad about not trusting it back in 2009 and keeping my money in there. These people that think it's the next big thing are idiots.

I think most here saw the signs and got out while they still could. I turned a good profit and I watch it here and there. I think the tech is here to stay, but at the moment it is evolving into something else. It's basically being refined.

Ford is a better deal than bitcoin, LOL. Irrational exuberance, the pro's made out like bandits.

The 1080 Ti cards are a great buy. The new 2080 stuff is hitting slightly bigger numbers when overclocked, but the 1080s are still a way better buy overall (FPS per $, etc.). If you want Titan RTX capability, an overclocked 2080 Ti is very close, but again, pretty much overkill.

My recommends are:
NVidia GEFORCE 1080 Ti FE
EVGA GEFORCE 1080 Ti (preferred)

Both of these cards will support AAA games for the next few years with no issues with the only bottleneck being the CPU, not the GPU. Especially since developers aren't really jumping into ray tracing just yet.

It's been years since I've done an AMD build, but I'm really looking at the new Ryzen 2 CPUs. Their performance is bitch slapping Intel pretty hard. And the new 3000k coming out should be even bigger of a beast. Problem is, too many reviews are based on gaming (which is what the CPU really was designed for) and I want something that can both game and run my VMs pretty good. The Intel does VMs well. Really well.

The big drawback on the Ryzen is that it requires fast memory to see best performance and memory prices are sky high right now (the feds are investigating price fixing last I heard).

What a difference 3 years makes. Last core update I did, An intel 5820k was the new multicore to get, DDR4 RAM was stupid cheap, and AMD was a long time away from their Intel ass kicking days. 1586mb of GDDR5 x2 was crushing, now its just average lol. 16GB system RAM sounded like a lot at the time. Now 32GB is the new average. Crazy how 3 years rolls by and my PC, while still a solid gaming rig, is inferior.

Part of me wants to say F it and just jump ship to the consoles. I bought a PS4 Pro last year, but havent had it plugged in since April (lol). I can imagine the next gen of consoles (PS5, Xbox Two?) being monstrously capable. Dont know if Im ready to give up my mouse and keyboard just yet. Just havent been into gaming recently, though this weekend I did fire up Starcraft 2 for the first time in ages.

Id have to see a monster jump in performance at a good value to build another PC. But thanks to tards trying hard to cash in on crypto, its absolutely made a mess of the DIY market for video cards.

I tried to explain to a bitcoin investor that the hype had peaked and he should get out and take his profit like the folks who created the hype. He didn’t listen.

lol, never heard of anyone naming it phanboi. stick to the shorter word!

also, agreed on the RTX 2080 BS. all ****ing nvidia bullshit. Im actually tired of them jacking prices so high. I welcome AMD with open arms, if they make a 1080ti killer thats $350, im in 110%. Other than that i will just buy a used nvidia card.

It will be back, has died time and time again only to come back stronger. A lot of framework has been set up the last year to eventually make this a asset class.

Take this with a grain of salt but it makes sense. happned time and time again in other markets.

The problem still is that there's nothing tangible, it only ever had value because people thought they could cash out quick. Eventually we ran out of people with deep enough pockets...

I'm all on board for this fad to die, I too want a 1080Ti at a reasonable price. Hoping my GTx 1060 will last a few years to hold me over.

Except it hasn't died time and time again.
