You guys thinking of a new truck.. Also if you guys like to keep your trucks.... Then you might want to wait a while before you pull the trigger. In the next 2-3 years Fords going to go APE **** in the truck and SUV market. They're dropping pretty much every US car model minus the mustang and 1 off performance cars. So from a friendly insider in the Ford Engineering division, they're working on some crazy stuff at this time. Some pretty interesting powerful and efficient things coming from the blue oval camp in the near future.
Wish I could've kept my $60k 17 Lariat and wait for the new F150. Unfortunate for me the crappy 10 speed, roaring and vibrating 4wd, and the rattling sunroof that couldn't keep a working track for more than 6 months forced me to change brands. Those are the things the dealership couldn't fix. The things they could fix are the timing chains, a faulty master cylinder (which left me without brakes), and a bad windshield washer pump.

Every single one of those problems are common on the current gen F150 yet they keep sending them out the door everyday with the same issues. The only thing I honestly wanted corrected on my truck that wasn't was the 10 speed transmission because I couldn't take the terrible driveability any longer. My new Ram may end up having some issues down the road, I don't know, but I can tell you for driveablity the 5.7 Hemi and ZF transmission are way better than the 2.7 and 3.5 ecoboosts and the 10 speed.

I’d love to wait for the next gen trucks but if they are that great when they hit the market I could always trade in what ever I end up with currently.

I bought a Laramie for a DD.

Interior was the selling point. Got the frost interior. The added space in the rear was a bonus too. Even those ram bins(not ramboxes in the bed) are handy. First time owning a non ford vehicle as a DD. The reclining seats in the rear are a bonus for passengers.

So far, with over 8k miles, no issues except for the bluetooth speaker acting up here and there. The trucks with the 12" screen are having some first year bugs.

commute wise at 80-mph I can get anywhere from 20-23 mpg. I don't run that stupid eco mode. Overall MPG is mid 18's now on 33 ATs

Also, the 5.7L is an outdated engine, but on the other hand it's fairly reliable and cheap to maintain/rebuild.

If you aren't desperate, the TR/TRX should be out in a year/1.5 years.

26 mpg? someone was smoking good shit. Unless they're going with the whole technical definition of highway - where the speed limit is 55 not on the interstate where its 70 and everyone runs 80

My 03 would get 26mpg on the highway. My brother's 2014 5.7 gets about 24. City miles are about 15 though.

I'm in the middle of nowhere, so a drive on the highway is many miles.

My 02 GT has gotten 27mpg on the highway. I drive gentle though. I don't abuse my stuff.

How do you like the headlights in the Laramie? It’s my understanding they are LED as well but aren’t the fully adaptive ones like the limited has?

One thing I’ve come to love on my wife’s XC90 is the output of the headlamps and the adaptive feature as we live down some twisty dark back roads.

Most my driving is done on the highway with mixed traffic at times. Currently with my fusion I’m getting 26-28 pending on weather and traffic patterns.

As long as I can see 20-22 out of any truck I’ll be happy for now.

No complaints, even on roads with no street lights.
Yea, not adaptive but the output is good enough for me.
After having trucks with halogens for years, any LED light seems great to me lol.

I just bought a 2019 Ram Big Horn 4x4 for $36k. Sticker was $46k. I paid less for this than I could find a 2018. For all the options it has, an xlt would have been mid 40's to match it. Also, needed the extra bed space so with ford I would have been stuck with a really long truck or having to open up them front doors every time I need to get in the back. I live in Colorado now, but I bought this truck near Savannah. I won't get to pick it up until the 18th for a cross country trip pulling a trailer. Should be interesting to see how it tows.

right now, my problem with Ford is my dealership and their inability to take responsibility for things they do wrong, even when there is no doubt about it. I've only owned fords my, but after dealing with Conway Ford, Im looking at other brands now. the lincoln was a LOCK for my next suv, now , im shopping audi as well. Was also looking at the Ranger, it was a LOCK, now shopping the Gladiator when it comes out

I bought a 2016 Ram new a couple of years ago now. Came out of a GMC Denali. The Ram has been a better truck overall. I frequently tow about 7500lbs with it and so far no issues at all with the truck. Like people mentioned, I got the Ram for about 8-10k less than a similarly equipped ford or Chevy. It may sound crazy but the big selling point for me at the time was the ability to get the Ram boxes, which I did. I use those things constantly. Everything from tools, towing gear, bike helmets, to ice and beer. I have the 5.7, 8 spd, with 3.92 gears and get 21-22 mpg hwy, 16ish on my daily commute (6 miles each way stop and go), and about 9-11 (depending on terrain) towing a 7500 lb camper FYI.

I'm hoping to do the comparison drive in the next few weeks for the possibility of an end of year transaction.
For those that have recently driven both---what made you decide either way?
Mine will be a winter DD, tow vehicle for GT500/Mustang on an open aluminum, and poor weather DD.
Last time I did the comparison I was impressed with the Ram's interior, transmission and ride quality.
This time the F150 has upgraded interior, 10A trans, and the ability for VMP/Edelbrock bolt on TVS kit :)

I was looking at 15-18 Chevy/GMC trucks, 10Sp F-150s and the 19 Rams.

The interior set it apart from the rest(at time of comparison).
Bighorn>XLT, Laramie > Lariat, Longhorn > King Ranch etc..
Chevy/GMC is stuck in 2008 interior wise, and the lack of rear AC vents was a huge negative.
Ford has a nice clean interior, and I did prefer a real shifter over the rotary one.
I use those internal ram bins a lot. Tools, random stuff for work etc.
The reclining rear seats are a plus. The quality of the materials is nicer. Biggest cabin in the segment IIRC comes in handy with kids.

I knew going into it the Ram was going to be the biggest headache in terms of modding. From computer to the internals not being boost friendly. But, that's fine with me as I will keep it relatively stock as it'll be my mileage eater. The 8 speed is smooth and quickly learns your driving style. Still wish they offered a sport mode though. Besides, with the TR/TRX around the corner, no need to dump money on a 5.7L when a 7.0 and 6.2 SC are a year or two out.

Close to 9k miles on mine in 6 months and it's been a good DD.
