Good thing you never got a 03/04 cobra then. Might be too much car.

Umm, ok? Not really seeing a strong connection between what I said and what you said. My car is pretty stable at full throttle and won't blow the tires off other than in first gear. No doubt a KB/Whipple 600+ rwhp car would be a much different beast but most people would have to get used to that and that car probably wouldn't have 4.10s either.

I actually think my car would be faster on the street with slightly longer gears. If I want to do a 40 roll I pretty much am immediately shifting into 3rd

I have had good results with K&N on several different cars and have always noticed a little more power and I know many have experienced the same. But what is of issue is the filtering thing, this will always be a hot debate, whether it filters better or worse I dont know. I emailed K&N a few years ago about the filtering debate and asked them how it could filter as well with all those little holes and they sent me a detailed explanation back, but the only trouble was it was all in some scientific terms and made little sense to me. It has something to do with the dirt clinging to the oil like a magnet as as the air passes through. The oil on the sensor thing is of debate also but if its oiled properly that is never an issue, I have had zero issues with that and I know many have experienced the same.

You pretty much said the car is too much with 410 gears. Being that you believe that then just a bolt on 03/04 cobra would just be too much car with you. It would cause you too shift too much.

Not exactly sure where you are going with this... It's not "too much" due to power, its more about preference and reduced "need" for a steep gear ratio with additional power. Of course need is dependent on whether it's a street car, strip car or combination.

As mentioned, when NA and with rwhp in the low 300s, 4.10s were a great setup, it really made a difference from the stock 3.27's. With ~460 rwhp, it's a fun car but not the ideal gear ratio for how I use the car.

IIRC correctly, 03/04 Cobras are actually geared pretty tall with a 2.66 first gear and 3.55 rear end and many GT500s have 3.31 rear gears from the factory. If those cars came with 4.10's stock they'd be fun but would be a handful to handle, especially when adding more power.

This thread took a weird turn.

It's all about the whole set up when it comes to gears. I ran the stock 3.27's in my 01 forever. From stock to a big bore stroker with a D1. With both the 3650 and a T-56. I never really had a complaint. If I really needed to move quick I just had to down shift.

A buddy got an IRS with 3.90's and wanted to get some stock gears. So we swapped straight across because I was curious. The 3.90's were fun even with the F1A. Things got moving in a hurry. And with drag radials it had hardly any issues hooking up. I'm sure I was shifting faster, but it took about two times driving the car to adjust.

The only issue I had was on the freeway. With those gears and a stock T-56 it put my cruise RPM right at the perfect spot to make my BOV extremely loud. If I had kept that car i was going to swap to the Viper 5th and 6th to lower the cruise RPM.

GT500s have the wide ratio 6060 trans with the 2.97 first gear and 27" tall tires stock vs the itty bitty tires on 79-04s. I mean yeah you can move up in size but not everyone does with street cars/clearances etc... Lots of 07-12 ppl move up to 28", 3.73s and literally bolt on another 200-300hp. The smart ones swap in a 6R80...
