No one should hate their job in this economy. Too many opportunities exist if you don’t like your current position.

LOL at this, dont believe everything you see on the news..

The vast majority of the new jobs created in this economy are low wage retail, fast food, service and gig jobs. Very few actual middle income or better jobs out there.

I think my job is pretty cool but I despise some people I work with and Im ready to move on. Been here for 7 years and Im to the **** it point. I wish they would just fire me and get it over with.

I leave early most days, sometimes I take a longer lunch, some days I take no lunch, most days Im browsing the internet when I have nothing to do. Ive heard some people bitch about me leaving early, Ive been talked to a few times, never formally reprimanded, but I always get my work done.

The field Im in is pretty small so im finishing up my degree and will make a career change in a year or two, if not sooner. Just waiting on a commission check next year and I will be more serious about leaving.

Not saying I doubt you, because I don't live where you live...

But if you have a college degree, (engineering is great, other BS degrees ok too) you need to come to North Carolina!

I work for a manufacturing company that designs and sells automation equipment. We are doing VERY well as a company and are in the process of our third (and largest) expansion. We're hiring over 100 employees and salaries range from 55k - 100k plus. We have an ESOP and excellent vacation time.

Low cost of living here too... if you can find a house to buy! Those are few and far between... might be renting a year or two at first.

Hell.. here are low wage retail, fast food and all that are hurting...

Why make $12 an hour, when entry level at an oil company is over $20

Was an automotive tech at a Nissan dealership for a few years. Its no surprise those were my darkest years where i was full on depressed. Everyone i worked with was 20+ years older and just as miserable, if not more.

90% of techs are severely underpaid and mistreated for the amount of knowledge/training/tools you need. You get zero credit for the work you do, and the service managers/advisors are always trying to come back with unrealistic demands then bitch at you when you cant do it.

I paid off all my bills/credit cards/got rid of car payment and left the whole industry.

Ehhh... Not always. I have had two technical recruiters tell me in the last month that they could land me another job tomorrow, at a $30-40k/yr pay cut. They stated that "at my level" it would be smarter to either continue up the ranks in a management role (which is the OPPOSITE direction I want to go, since I prefer being "value added") or consider a career restart.

I've been seeing different, lots of career minded people are moving around lately. If you have a good skill and resume, you have opportunities out there. There's companies that cant find employees with brains or skills for to save their lives right now, and that means that with the supply dwindling, they have to increase salaries to get employees. Its no longer an employers market, its an employees. My wife is now HR Director at a new gig, has increased her salary 50% in a matter of a year. I got a call two months ago from a competitor that wanted to steal me for an extra $10k/yr, if it wasnt for my schedule with school and current employer being supportive id be making the jump too.

Another indicator of why I see another recession looming. This is exactly how I remember it being in '06-07. Shit was cranking, people were moving around, money being thrown around, etc.

honestly my biggest thing lately is I'm just tired of being a desk jockey. I get up and do facility walk throughs, checking in with supervisors etc... but I'm just tired of doing paperwork/working from a computer all the damned time, you don't really have that tangible "I fixed/built this" today

Ahh see nows my time to get after it cuz I’m young, so I’m working all i can. Wifey is allllmost in the same mindset, which is a blessing in itself. My approach is ‘Complacency breeds weakness’ so i work my way up the ladder.

Get it, just know when to dial it back and enjoy life.

My situation was..

Be on Salary.. but Im on call 365 days a year.. BUT I wake up whenever I want, go to work whenever I want... but could be woken up, or called out at any time of the day or night.

Or..

Back to the hourly grind.. 2 weeks a month of on call, but a shit ton more pay.. and longer days.. plus waking up at 4:30am. and having a schedule... that never really works out

I cant find what the medium is for time vs work... and I Work in the worst industry on the planet to figure that out.

My company ( as well as others) flat out say.. " we dont care how much OT you get "... hell last week was roughly 20 hours of DOUBLE time and a half.. 10 hours of Double time... like 25 hours of OT, plus my 40 hours.... but life sucked last week... but the pay check in 2 weeks will be incredible.

I did the on call thing for 8 long years. Never again! When I'm off, I'm off. It'll be there when I get back.

Yeah I'm about 4 years into it. If I could find a job that pays anywhere near what I make now to not be on call I'd take it immediately

Nobody said he was only talking about newly created jobs. The point stands, there are plenty of opportunities for people to switch jobs.

And really, LOL at people who think there aren't. If you follow the opportunity, there will always be jobs. Automation will be big in the future. Sure, it'll take away some low level jobs. But guess what....somebody has to maintain the robots/machines, etc.. When one door closes, another opens.

I despise my job...but I'm over the Crest of the hill and to walk away would be financially stupid. I'm counting down every day to retirement. The job has ruined my faith in people, contributed to two failed marriages and probably prematurely aged me.
