Me personally i wouldnt be pulling a 20ft boat with a small short wheel base unibody SUV. Although it may have enough power to pull it there is a "tail wagging the dog effect," and it will be super unstable if you get into a cross wind, heavy braking or emergency maneuver.

Those maximum tow ratings involve some mathematical gymnastics to publish a big number that's not realistic. You will exceed max tongue weight, rear axle rating and/or payload easily before achieving 7,200lbs.

You really need to be looking at full size SUVs or pickups if you need that much tow capacity. The base model GC has a tow capacity of like 3,500lbs and it has the exact same chassis as the trackhawk. That ought to tell you something.

Yeah my rule of thumb is you want double the rating of whatever your towing.

Things get sketchy at that max limit.

Depends on the axle center line of the trailer and the center of gravity for the load. There's also trailer sway brake arms (can't remember the exact terminology for it) that can be added to mitigate trailer sway. Worked well on an ex's Honda Pilot and 3400 lbs camper. These boats are under 4000 lbs. I don't know if that's with or without the trailers. Even if it's without, I can't imagine a boat trailer weighing much over 1000 lbs. Probably not even close to that much. Keep in mind the Cayenne itself is 16' long with a 9 1/2' wheelbase. Both the GLE63 S and the Trackhawk are bigger. I've seen much worse trailering configurations on the road.

Or leave your boat in a boat house nearby...

We've considered that option, but it also has its disadvantages. We're looking at a house that's right on the lake with a deeded boat dock that's just steps away. That would eliminate the need for towing the boat. But we aren't wanting the vehicle just for towing stuff. It will also be our road trip/vacation travel vehicle.

sometimes boat weights are listed as dry hull only with no motor and no fuel and the number on the scales can be alot higher than what the brochure says.

I can also guarantee you will be at max or over max for rear axle weight rating, tongue weight or payload. Could you probably get away with it 90% of the time? Sure but this is a clear case of just because you can....

You wouldn't think, especially with the Porsche. However, based on my research, the Cayenne is actually really good offroad.
I have a Cayenne Turbo. With the traction control and it raised up in off road suspension mode, it has no problems offroad in snow or mud. My f250 4x4 would get stuck before the Cayenne would. Some guys even put mud tires on theirs and do some serious off roading.

I also bought the cayenne for the 7500# towing capacity. With the power and the braking capability, I wouldn't hesitate to max out the towing capacity.

I was between a turbo and a turbo s. The thing that steered me away from the s was the expense of the break job. Just the parts were over $3000. Where a regular turbo is $700.

For a road trip’s and vacation travel either of the vehicles you have listed will be fantastic (until you have them serviced of course) however for towing a boat they’re probably the worst choices you could make, especially If it is more than a couple of miles from the water. It seems like you are making an emotional choice.

I mean let’s be honest if you saw some guy hauling a boat out of the water using a Porsche wouldnt you think it was kind of weird?

No because the boat they probably own would be a yacht so there fore they wouldn't even get the rear tires wet, unless they happen to drive through standing water in their driveway because of their automatic sprinklers turning on.

Are we talking Wolf of Wall Street yacht, complete with hookers and blow. If so, I have only one thing to ask “Permission to come aboard”

All C-7's and trim lines limit your redline to about 5250 until you hit 500 miles then you are to drain the break in oil and put in synth. ESP 0-40W until about 5000 miles between changes. It is neat watching the central tach redline shrink from it's 5000 setting to the 6500 setting when 500 miles hit the odometer.
Yeah, I saw a Youtube video of it,...it's pretty awesome.
I want a C7 Z07. (Not sure if I mentioned that in this forum before?? LOL)

if i was going to buy a premium luxury suv for towing duty in this price realm it would definitely be a navigator black label, 450hp, 10spd and a world class interior. It also has a much higher tow rating and in general built way tougher than any of those euro-trash unibody cross-over "suvs."
Of course!! I would get a Navigator as well. Lincoln is killing it with the luxury vehicles.
BUT,....if you want the fastest, you go with the Trackhawk!

Funny you mention that, this latest version has its 1st "off road" package. Wasn't a fan of the outgoing F15 (even though we have one). I like the new G05 much more. We looked at a lot of SUV's when we got out 1st X5. We now have our 5th on order. Works for us, just thought I would mention it as you had looked basically every comp to it.

I've never been a fan of the X5. Now it's even uglier. Also, it makes zero pretensions at being anything other than a pavement vehicle. The vehicle we get will be subjected to everything we put the Forester XT through; off in the weeds, mud, rutty roads, unpaved mountain passes, dogs/cargo/dirt in the back (with protection, of course), etc. The X5 isn't really suited for any of that, based on my admittedly limited research of it.

20' Malibu Wakesetter or a Chaparral 23 H2O Surf.

The Cayenne has a 7500 lbs tow rating. The Trackhawk has a 7200 lbs tow rating. So they can both pull a nice sized boat or home improvement materials. I can't remember the GLE63 S's tow rating, but I believe it's in the same ballpark.

Still pushing the Porsche 6300lb GVWR even though you're only towing a 3500lb dry weight boat which is well below the ~7500lb towing limit.

Boat = 3500
Trailer = 1500
Fuel = 38 gallons * 7.8 = 298lbs

Roughly 5300 lbs

Tongue weight is roughly 10% or ~530lbs.

Porsche weighs in at ~4800 + tongue weight 530 is 5310lbs.

Now you have less than 1,000lbs for passengers, water sports gear, food and drinks.

If you throw that shit in the boat tongue weight goes up.

Food for thought.

Which, I found out the Trackhawk doesn't have an adaptive (raising/lowering) suspension, so that's another mark that take it out of the running. The Cayenne can give us over 10" of ground clearance.

LOL.

Axle center line -- what? Trailer sway brake arms!?!

You need to crawl before you can walk, smokie. Let me save you some money and a possibly catastrophic accident.

This is what you need. Will look great parked next to the Forester.

Brakes and power are not all that's required to tow "heavy".

Power is actually one of items at the bottom of the list. There's no way you'd get me to tow 7500lbs with a soft/flimsy ass suspended Porsche SUV.

Glad you posted this. I was getting ready to go exactly here.

Ill only add that the Cayenne is closer to 5200 lbs curb weight which leaves less than 600 lbs for all passengers and gear.

Guarantee he will be over loaded with a 5300 load behind that Porsche.

Cayenne turbos are on air ride. If you had ever looked at a Cayenne, you would know they are not sitting on flimsy suspension. The suspension components are beefy. Also, the gvrw is 6800lbs. Don't let the facts get in your way.

Cayenne with a tow package comes with a tow module that changes the dynamics of the vehicle. Has a hookup under the dash for a 3rd party brake controller, which is all but required for heavy trailering. Brakes are more than sufficient, power and torque are more than sufficient, driveline cooling is more than sufficient.

It tows well.

Got a pic of your door jamb? Everything ive read says gvwr is 2800 kg or 3000 kg, not 6800lbs but I’d be curious to see what the US cars say.

Your suspension components are flimsy compared to any vehicle actually built to tow. Period.

If you want to see what a proper vehicle set up for towing looks like... I’m ur huckleberry.

But WTF do I know I guess?
