Georgia just dropped a giant **** YOU to the all exotic owners in their state. They raided a dealership in Atlanta (who was supposedly suggesting/helping owners get Montana plates), and the houses of two car collectors that in recent years have had like 50 cars with Montana plates. Georgia says they have been monitoring social media, cars and coffees, their toll transponders, etc and everything with Montana plates will be contacted. Someone on reddit said their neighbor is an actor with several cars with Montana plates, and he had a trailer over last night, having said cars removed.

Thanks for posting the link, but today's video, that guy is just a major douche. I like Ed's video from yesterday better. Ed just has a way with word that make any video with him, much better.

I agree, Ed and Rabbit's vids are my favorite. I really wish Ed didn't give the Revenue Agent Vinwiki as a forum to tell everyone he's screwing why he's screwing them.

I was about to quickly agree and then had the thought....maybe the agent coming on his channel is how he talked himself out of legal issue. I mean, he is THE shrewd negotiator. :)

Oh yeah, Ed had him on because it's not only good for him to keep his enemies close but it's good for his channel to have both sides.

Do I agree with him giving the revenue agent the forum? Not really. I think the agent is cherry picking a law to enforce that no one gives a shit about to make a name for himself. He acts like some social justice queer using the guise of fairness to make the playing field level for all consumers. Like I care if some dude in an exotic used a LLC in Montana to skirt a tax law.

Montana was ahead of this and added a luxury tax for 2018 to try and minimize exploitation.

As Doug demuro said in his video about Montana plates. Either you have the money or you don’t. If you want a 200-400k car then you should pay taxes on that car.

Yes, but via google....

"An annual “Ferrari tax” or “luxury tax” takes effect Jan. 1. It tacks on an additional $825 on registrations for vehicles valued at $150,000 or more that are 10 years old or less. Those with motor homes less than 11 years old and valued at $300,000 or more will pay an additional $800."

...no one cares about that. I would argue the owner of a 458 cares about a 20K tax bill, but not a $800 one.

Next they'll be cracking down on people shopping in neighboring states without sales tax.

Oddly enough washington requires people who buy shit in oregon to pay the sales tax in Washington state when you get back(no idea how they enforce it....)

The whole argument of "they are not paying their fair share" is absurd to me. These are not daily driven cars. The tax is there for road improvements, government employees and strange ways they decide to waste tax dollars. So, these cars are driven once in a while on a nice day, or once a month to a car meet. Is it 'fair' for them to pay $20k in taxes on what is essentially a toy?

GA needs to rethink the TAVT. To tax a used car, that has already been taxed upon initial purchase, is absurd. That's what started this whole mess. Perhaps a fair way to tax these cars, that are rarely driven, is to put a mileage cap per amount of taxes paid. Want to drive a $250k car 15k miles a year? Perhaps $20k is the right amount of taxes. Want to own a $250k car and drive it 1k miles a year? perhaps $20k in taxes is way too much.

There's no doubt they have daily driven cars that are registered in the state. So, by that measure, they are paying into the system just like us common folk. This is merely a money grab from the state. The guy that went on VINWiki was obviously emotional about the issue and his emotions are running rampant. I'd have a lot more respect if he said, "look, what you are doing is unlawful and we will be finding you to work with you." Instead he said, "someone will be going to jail for this...it is a felony."

Montana plates are merely a tax loophole. Rob Ferretti said it best: no one bats an eye at the large corporations, that make billions, using Delaware as their holding state to reduce tax costs--there is no state income tax in Delaware and they allow you to form a business there even if you don't conduct business in the state (sound familiar?). The Montana plate thing is the same to me, and while maybe it's unlawful, it is legal: it's a tax strategy, not tax evasion.

I find this hard to believe. Your premium is based on your principle garage, they dont verify what state plates are on your vehicle. As long as the insurance company get their correct premium they could care less when it comes time to pay out.
When it comes to paying out the claim, they will know exactly where the car was plated. You know how they will know this? The police report.

I would absolutely expect an insurance company to try and find a way to snake themselves out of paying a claim. Having a car that is registered out of state, to a LLC, is just the beginning. Of course the insurance company will happily take your money, approving your claim is a different story. You cannot make any false statements to the insurance company as it will void your policy/claims.

Your information is wrong. I'm looking at the paperwork MT sent me this year. It's a yearly $825 tax applied every year until the vehicle is 11 years old. Applied in addition to their other annual fees.
