Seeing the vendor on here was selling his last few and some saying on social media that the 2.3 is being discontinued.

If that's the case, I think those of us that have the little 2.3's might have just went up in value. :)

But then again, most people might just want the 2.65 to start out with.

This is what I found on Facebook.

I'm probably in the minority here, but due to the fact the TVS only comes in flat black I would never consider it.

I need silver or polished. So, it's Whipple for me regardless of what TVS wants to do or how they perform.

Call me simple minded, but looks is an important factor when it comes to my set up and flat black doesn't cut with my set up.

You might be. Majority of the people I think like black. I'd hate polished (to much up keep) but don't mind silver.

I guess I'm more in it for the performance vs looks. I personally think the whipple blowers look better.

That was my message to VMP lol. Yes they said the 2.3 is being dis-continued. I ended up ordering one despite the fact I was planning to wait on the purchase until early next year. Last I knew as of yesterday there was one left available still.
I think the 2.3 is more than adequate for a street/strip car so for me the 2.65 is a bit overkill and for the extra $1,000 price tag over the 2.3 it was worthwhile to just go with the old proven 2.3. 700+hp is more than enough for me personally. Glad I was fortunate enough to scoop up one of the last ones produced. I can’t wait for it to come in. :)

I'm with you Glenn. My biggest hold up on the VMP was that it's only available in black. I know they perform, but a polished Whipple performs too.

Why not just strip the tvs and polish it. Probably be cheaper than the whipple and then you get the removable inlet and more pulley options.

If it's done right, it's not cheaper if you farm the work out BPS gets $1600.00 and that's not including shipping

2.3 still the best blower on the street

I've only seen one that was polished and the polisher said it was a bitch. The casting was extremely rough. Probably why a polished version was never offered. Plus to do it right you need to take the blower apart. I don't think many people are going to want to take their brand new, still under warranty blower apart.

Aside from changing injectors what else is the removable inlet good for? I'm not trying to be a dick, I'm genuinely curious. Is it impossible to change plugs without removing the inlet?

I'd throw in removing passenger side valve cover. Can it be removed without removing the blower? Whipple or KB I'm obviously talking about.

On a side note, I hope they will still have parts for the 2.3 if needs a rebuild at some point.

Injectors/rails and valve covers. I had a 2.3 whipple and after going back to a removable inlet on a tvs, ill never go back.

Ive had my pass side valve cover off several times since being tvs. Ive also swapped injectors. Also the tvs allows .1" (1lb) increments in pulley changes.

For me that's stuff I really wouldn't be working on anyway. I'd be running 105lb injectors from the get go. And if I ever have to pull the valve covers again I'm gonna pull the engine.

Mike and Brady,

I hear you both and completely understand your thought process. Although I do like performance I also need my set up to look right for me. A flat black supercharger would just look gaudy under my hood.

Yes, cleaning a polished supercharger would suck, but I keep the mileage off my car, so it wouldn't be too much trouble for me.

Bob,

With Mystichrome valve covers I don't think a flat black supercharger would work for you either.

I wouldn't be opposed to taking the TVS apart and getting it powder coated. Took my Eaton apart and got it powder coated and put it back together with no problems.

So, I see that as a viable option.

Yeah, I don't think black would work very well in my engine compartment. I'm not opposed to taking anything apart as I've been known to tinker. But it would suck to need the blower worked on under warranty after taking it apart. They could easily say it was something the customer did and deny it.

I like both powder coated black as well as the polished look...especially on the big kb’s

But when I heard the vmp 2.3 was being discontinued...I had to scoop one up along with the gt500 t/b

You think you won't be working on those things but stuff happens.

For me ive had my pass side valve cover off for powder coating, then for valve seals, then again to do 96 intake cams. I also had to swap injectors because the id1000s everyone recommends for e85 wasnt enough. Stuff happens, its nice not to have to worry about the blower being in the way.

Also the inlet elbow and gt500 tb are awesome pieces. They dwarf the whipple setup and the gt500 tb is actually a better throttlebody than any option for the whipple/kb.

The whipple is a good blower but the tvs has a lot of advantages over it that should be considered. I do wish the tvs was available in other colors, i love for my 2.65 to be stock eaton 112 Gray.

i know everybody has their own set of priorities.

that said, you can paint or powder coat the damn blower. personally, i wouldn't care if the blower came with a unicorn shitting rainbows on the side as long as it would make the car haul ass.

time spent driving car >>> time spent looking at the engine
Couldnt have said it any better.

time spent driving car >>> time spent looking at the engine

And that's your "damn" priority.......... Believe it or not some of us spend the weekend at car shows NOT the damn race track. And doing it WITH a powder coated blower......... And a unicorn sitting on the side of the blower, although would get some attention at a car show, I don't think it would pull any trophies......

So, for me, the equation looks like this:

time spent driving car <<< time spent looking at the engine. I even go in the garage just to look at my Cobra.

I know a lot of guys here could care less about looks. I learned about the "priority" on this site when I initially posted pictures of my car's paint job.

All you who enjoy modifying your Cobra, I have ZERO issues with it. That's your "priority" and how you enjoy your car. But, you guys have all kinds of reliability issues whether it be bad alternators, broken half shafts, messed up clutches, problems with the tune, issues at WOT, fuel issues, belt slip and ultimately engine failure or non start issues. I get it. That's part of hot rodding. I know, been there done that. As a matter of fact my 65 is sitting in the garage without a drive train because of modifying issues.

Then when these cars come up for sale EVERYONE says get it checked, get a compression test, get a leak-down test, make sure it wasn't beat on and then put back to stock appearance.

So, with my Cobra I "choose" to focus on aesthetics instead of performance because the car performs well enough stock and I'm too old to be wrenching or lying on the ground these days replacing half shafts or transmissions or clutches, nor do I want to be running around with 20 year olds who post videos of themselves supposedly racing in "Mexico" or doing a rolling start on the highway.

That's great for some of you, not me............. So, go buy your flat black supercharger on sale, enjoy your savings and enjoy your modifications. I'll keep painting and making my Cobra look good all while remaining at stock performance levels.
