The 2.7 isn’t available in the platinum so that rules that out from what I understand
Really too bad. I love my 18 2.7 with the 10 speed. Way better than I expected, honestly. I was back and forth between that and the 3.5, but never even considered the 5bro. It’ll surprise you. Put this thing in sport mode, and hang on. lol

I have a 15 3.5 Lariat FX4 SCrew and love it. I had a 5.0 15 XLT SCrew as a rental right after I got mine and hated it.

I get 18 mpg in town and knockdown 21-22 on the highest hand calculated. Do 55-60 on a highway and have seen 25mpg hand calculated.

Surprisingly I haven’t seen much reviews for the desiel F150, is it a flop or just too new to have much reviews?

I didn’t mention one because frankly the price difference alone is likely more then would be saved over the ownership of the truck for me. I’m still curious to see what people think of it, I see online many dealers have them on their lots now.

Nobody else replied, but its mostly cost prohibitive at this point. With no real advantages. If they offered it as a base model option I think we'd see more wide spread interest. But regardless, modern emissions diesels are reliability crapshoots, so unless the 3.0 PSD shows to be an exception there really isn't any appeal to it, IMO. Which is a bummer, because I'd love a small light truck with a RELIABLE diesel that could make 400+ HP with a little aftermarket magic.

I’d love it for the fuel mileage it seems to be getting from the few reviews I’ve seen. Upper 20s mpg would make for a great truck to DD but I too question reliability specially with a new platform.

Ultimately at that price point I could get into a F-250 anyway.

I'd say, 5.0 from the long haul stand point. While the Ecoboost is great ( I have an Ecoboost Expedition) I feel like potential issues might out weight the little power difference over the long haul. I am planning to get rid of this Expedition around 100,000 miles. We are currently looking for a truck for my wife, 5.0 4X4 that will go the distance of 200,000. Plus the 10 speed mated with the 5.0 moves out really well.

Also, at 20,000 I have a turbo leaking oil on my current ecoboost. I actually love this ecoboost motor, just don't see it going 200,000. Most certainly hope I am wrong.

If you are honestly planning on pushing the truck to 200k, I would say the 5.0.

If you only wanted 150k out of it, I would say EB.

Either way it will be a nice truck.

Somewhere between 150-200k would get me about 7 years of use out of what ever I get so I’d be happy with that.

Im loving my 2018 5.0 10spd f150 its a fun truck. I took it to the track bone stock right after I bought it and it ran 8.94 @ 81.9mph in the 1/8th now it has a 2018 mustang gt intake manifold and a tune and it just went 8.30@ 88.4 mph.

Damn that's some great gains for the mods on a NA motor!

I have had both and currently have a 17 XLT 3.5 ECO and I have to say its the best engine for drivability and mileage, if thats what you care about. Its fast as hell to compared to my other 5.0 XLTs. My 17 has the new 10 speed tranny and its a great addition with the 3.5. I am sure it will be just as good with the 5.0. Mods are much easier for the 5.0.

Damn, took 15 years to put 135k on my 04. Wasn’t a DD though.
100 miles a day round trip to work for me. I tend to rack miles up pretty quick. Thankfully my wife on the other hand rarely drives. We got her an xc90 in January and she has 6k miles on it now lol

I am currently shopping HARD for an '18 F150 single cab short bed 4x4 w the 5.0 and they are just so damn hard to find. Ford really loaded the marker with the ecoboost motors in this variation. I am wanting to buy one for a fun truck and eventually supercharge it and still be able to have a truck to tow/haul with. If anyone knows of one in your area hit me up! I'm willing to travel to make a deal. 0% for 72 months is too hard to pass on right now.

Direct Injection and the 10 speed on the 5.0 will make a ton of difference vs port only and the 6 speed. Both seem to be a proven platform. I think it comes down to realistic desired use. Less things moving mean less issue and general expense as the car/truck gets older.

Either way you should be happy. Make sure you change the oil on time with a QUALITY oil and you should have no issues.
