So I've used Cox email services for over 20 years. My email address seems to be soliciting more and more spam each day, and the Cox spam filters suck. I manually move spam into my Cox spam folder but it isn't doing much of anything to filter future spam. So I'm wanting to start fresh with a new email address and email service.

I've narrowed down my choices to Gmail and Yahoo, in part because Gmail is supposed to have the best anti-spam filters followed by Yahoo. Gmail allow you to manually blacklist email addresses to block them going forward. Kind of like blocking callers on my iPhone. For those who have or presently use Gmail or Yahoo, what is your experience with spam filtering with either or both? Is one better than the other in your opinion?

Thanks for your help!
Bob

Can't say for Yahoo, but it is extremely rare that spam gets through Gmail's filter on my accounts.

And it's adaptive, so it learns what is and isn't.

Gmail flags what I care about without me having to tell it. Some how it knows when a person purposely emails me and tags a yellow ribbon next to it.

It automatically sorts social media and promotional emails to their own folder.

Nearly all spam rolls into the spam folder.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Brad, I don't like Google, either, but the reviews I'm finding clearly show Gmail is the absolute best for spam filtering. I'll sleep on it and decide in the morning. Thanks again everyone!

Okay, after reading the last few posts, I'm sold on Gmail. I just created a new account and now for the LONG process of changing my email address everywhere. I'll have to first compile a list of companies, sites, vendors, friends, etc. that use my current email address, and then one by one update them. Looks like I'm going to have a busy Saturday. LOL.

Well if the decision is between just those two then GMAIL hands down. You couldn't pay me to use Yahoo as often as they get hacked.

However if you really want to take care of SPAM you need to purchase your own domain and then use it as an unlimited supply of disposable email addresses. I get practically zero SPAM these days using this method.

I must say for the most part Gmail is very good. Every once in a while they'll come out with updates that tend to screw some things up internally, but it's rare.
My entire business email is based of Gmail

Gmail. It's the best by a big margin.

We may not agree with Google's political views but their products are some of the best.

I still have an old Hotmail address from 2001 or so. I crank the spam filters to maximum overdrive and nothing gets through. Nothing. No spam. No bill reminders. No Christmas greetings. It's like burning your mailbox to the ground. It's wonderful.
