My Dad's best friend and owner of the flight school we both fly out of passed away in a plane crash (he died later in hospital).

2 seasoned Florida pilots killed in South Carolina jet crash

Steve was co-pilot, not sure if they came in too hot on short runway, brakes failed or what, but it looks like they tried full power to get airborne again and did not make it.

He has two kids that both work at the flight school. I hope they are ok.

I'll be sure to be here for support for my dad. My parents and my gf are actually headed up together to visit this weekend; they visit my sister and her kid (I guess her husband too), she visits me.

Details aren't clear on cause. Witnesses said the plane seemed to land fine (one pilot witness said the flare seemed a little long, but nothing too bad) just didn't stop.

Looking at pics of the airport it looks like there was an arrestor bed at the opposite end of the runway but wind favored the approach that they took.

RIP

He took me up in my first flight in a non-commercial plane. Great guy. Helped me out a lot giving me work around the flight school when I was in between jobs and/or semesters at school.

I REALLY REALLY hope it wasn't brake failure. One of Steve's sons is the mechanic that's in charge of maintenance and inspections on that plane. I can not even begin to fathom the pain and guilt one would go through in that situation.

Sorry to hear about the connection there, and of course the victims :(

That crash happened where I live- my wife and I take that road all the time.

I'm hearing some very disturbing things regarding this man's business dealings, past and present, along with his flight credentials. I never would have guessed with my interactions with him.

I will limit my posts in this thread to facts regarding the crash as they become available.
