Looking for some knowledge..My 04 Lightning has the dreaded O/D light flashing, just started friday after putting in new cruise control switches, the check engine light came on after, pull code and it was P1746. I have checked all wiring around the engine and transmission, nothing is touching or burned. Anyone else have this problem and what was the issue? Also, do anyone know if the torque converter has a drain plug?

Drop the trans pan and change the solenoids if you dont find a fault in the wiring .
A meter is your friend .
Learn to use it .

Well you do have wire connectors at the transmission.
You should be able to see if that solenoid is truly bad , or do you have a wiring problem .

You said it only happened , after you changed switches ....
Start there .
You cel said short ?

Well, couldn't change the solenoids..the ones ordered were not the correct ones, also the solenoids are part of a solenoid block, not individual like I see in some pictures, l dont see a way to change them without replacing the entire block.

Replaced the solenoid pack with one from Ford, it did not fix the problem..didnt even drive it.. it started while the truck was idling. I cleared codes and it all came back..I am at a loss..

Update: problem identified and resolved. PCM went bad. Replaced and all is good.
