Ive got some polished stainless exhaust tips that have been on the car a looong time. There's all kinds of...I dont even know... stuck to em from DD duty. Theres also a spot on the top of each tip where they were too close to the bumper cover and got marred a little bit over time.

I tried some never dull polish wad and it took some stuff off but still leaves a bit desired. I'm going to guess I'll need to do a multi-step polish just not quite sure where to start.

Probably try wet sanding again with some high grit sandpaper and decrease the grit as needed. Then polish them out.

It sucks you spend all that time polishing only to literally bake road grime onto them lol.

ya just not sure what grit to start/finish with etc...theyre not terribly just need something more aggressive to get the junk off. Im not terribly concerned, this is probably 60-70k miles worth of a junk and shes a garage queen now

I would start with 2000 grit and some water/soap lube then hit it with some polish.

My Cobra is the same way, it's a total garage queen with maybe a few hundred miles a year.

When I clean the tail pipes I just rub some mother's polish on them to get them shiny. There's still some imperfections left afterwards but I just dont have a lot of time to chase them.

tailpipes I dont care about, I wiped the loose stuff off and thats fine but mine aren't really visible on the solid axle setup.

Be sure the tips are stainless & not chrome. I did my Borla setup, exhaust is stainless, tips are chrome. I started w/400 grit and finished with 3000k grit. On the tips, just tar remover & chrome polish.

Best post on it, just sucks the pics are gone. I used this to do mine too.

thanks but not trying to polish the pipes, you dont even see em on a solid axle car. This is just cleaning up tips that were already done. In further research apparently they changed em at some point and they were just polished, it looks like mine are chrome...go figure. I'll soak em in some tar/bug remover and get some chrome polish

I use Chemical Guy's Metal Shine. It has micro abrasives so no need to use steel wool.

Excellent product. But steel wool is still recommended for cleaning the tip of surface grime for optimal results.

@DSG2003Mach1, here's a great video showing the entire recommended process when using Chemical Guy's Metal Shine. I recommend watching the whole video as it's only 6 minutes long. Worth the view and it should answer all of your questions.
