Everyone,
Recently I came across and purchased a 95 Cobra with only 48K miles on it and in great shape. The car is completely stock, right down to the smog pump and even the factory intake air silencer. I am torn about what to do with the car, but I know I want to go with a 351. The problem I have is, I would like to keep the original 95 Motor intact and just pull it with everything but the A/C compressor left hanging on the front.
I have a line on a 351 from a 95 F150 with 115K on it. From what I understand, this motor with the expectation of the intake(possibly distributor as well) would drop right in. The problem is, who wants to pull the motor and drop in a new one and not do anything to it. So, if I get a junkyard motor and then tear is down for a rebuild the price goes up right there.
Here's the million dollar question;
Is it more cost effective to get a commercial 351 short block/long block and buy the extra parts(injectors, intake, distributor, etc) or get a junkyard motor and rebuild it, using the parts as best possible that came with it.
